PMOI Resistance Units across Iran celebrate the death of Ebrahim Raisi, the “Butcher of Tehran”

In a wave of jubilation that swept across the country, the Iranian people celebrated the death of regime president Ebrahim Raisi, a major human rights abuser who has left a trail of blood in his wake in four decades of serving the regime.

PMOI Resistance Units in different cities across Iran, including Ahvaz, Shiraz, Mashhad, Karaj, Isfahan, Tabriz, Rasht, Hamedan, Qazvin, Damavand, Khorramabad, Malayer, Yazd, Qom, and Zahedan celebrated this occasion with video messages and by holding placards with messages of celebration and commitment to overthrow the mullahs’ regime.

The leaflets and banners carried strong messages calling for justice. Phrases such as “We pray that Khamenei will soon meet the same fate as Raisi” and “We hope the executioner meets his end in hell” reflect deep anger and resentment towards the current regime. The Resistance Units expressed their collective hope for Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, to face a fate similar to that of Raisi.

The slogans on the banners stated: “On the night of the Butcher’s death, Khamenei’s regime became invalid.”

These slogans not only celebrated Raisi’s demise but also called for an uprising, emphasizing that the time for change has now arrived.

Ebrahim Raisi was a member of the four-person death committee that issued death sentences to thousands of political prisoners in the massacre that took place in 1988, resulting in the deaths of 30,000 political prisoners, most of them members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.

The gravity of these executions was underscored by an audio recording released decades later. In this recording, Hossein Ali Montazeri, then-deputy to Khomeini, denounced the executions as the greatest crime committed by the Islamic Republic, highlighting the magnitude of the injustice.

Before becoming the regime’s president, Raisi continued to hold key positions in the judiciary and became the head of the judiciary in 2019. In his bloody career, he has overseen, approved, and facilitated thousands of executions. He played a key role in the killing of more than 1,500 protesters in the 2019 uprising and the killing of at least 750 youths in the 2022 uprising.

Raisi never shied away from his crimes and even expressed pride in handing out execution and amputation sentences. Raisi was considered the main candidate to succeed Khamenei as supreme leader after his death.

After his death, the people of Iran held celebrations in different cities, calling the incident the moment of justice for families whose loved ones were killed by the regime. Videos on social media show citizens in different cities distributing pastries and sweets and celebrating with fireworks and other ceremonies.

At the same time, freedom-loving Iranians across the world celebrated the death of one of the most notorious criminals of contemporary history and congratulated the thousands of PMOI families who have suffered at the hand of Raisi.
