Iran revolutions enters 72nd day as unity escalates against the regime

Last update: 10:00 pm CET

Iran’s uprising is marking its 72nd day on Saturday as people throughout the country have been joining in solidarity with their brave Kurdish compatriots in the west and northwest areas, and the Baluchi community in southeast Iran. Despite the fact that authorities are increasing their lethal crackdown measures, with more attacks against peaceful demonstrators taking place on Friday against locals in Zahedan and other cities of Sistan & Baluchestan Province, the Iranian people are refusing to stand down and are relentlessly pursuing their anti-regime protests.

Protests in Iran have to this day expanded to at least 252 cities. Over 660 people have been killed and more than 30,000 are arrested by the regime’s forces, according to sources of Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The names of 528 killed protesters have been published by the PMOI/MEK.

On Saturday protests continued with more strikes by noble merchants and store owners in Zahedan. In Tehran, students at Amir Kabir University were seen boycotting their classes, protesting the arrest of their classmates and voicing solidarity with the ongoing Iranian revolution against the mullahs’ rule. Similar protest rallies were held in Pardis Faraby University, University of Science and Culture, and Isfahan University of Technology.

In other news on Saturday reports indicate that around 4,000 workers of Isfahan’s famous steel mill have walked off and are on strike. Strikes were also reported by workers in Tehran and Alvand (Qazvin province).

Protests continued in different cities throughout the day and intensified at night. Nightly rallies were reported in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, and Karaj. Protesters chanted slogans against the regime and called for the overthrow of the mullahs’ rule. At the same time, they expressed their solidarity with the people of Sistan and Baluchestan province and Iran’s Kurdish cities.

Friday’s protests began with demonstrations in the cities of Sistan and Baluchestan province. In Zahedan, Khash, Iranshahr, and Chabahar, citizens took to the streets following Friday prayers and protested the regime’s brutal crackdown on nationwide demonstrations. Protesters chanted slogans against regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), and the Basij. They also voiced their solidarity with the people of Iran’s Kurdish cities, who have been subjected to a brutal crackdown by the IRGC in recent days. Protesters in Zahedan were shouting, “Kurds and Baluch are brothers, they both hate [Khamenei]!”

This solidarity between the various ethnicities across Iran is taking place despite tremendous efforts by the regime to drive a wedge through ethic divides and prevent Iran’s people from unifying against tyranny.

Fearing protest rallies by the people of Sistan and Baluchestan, authorities had dispatched contingents of security forces to different cities on Thursday night and early Friday morning. The regime proved once again that it does not tolerate peaceful protests. In Zahedan, security forces opened fire on protesters and wounded several people. Exact reports of casualties have yet to come but videos show that several people have suffered bullet wounds and are rushed to hospitals. Local activists have been reporting dozens were killed and injured as a result of regime security forces opening fire on the peaceful demonstration.

Throughout the day, protests spread to other cities of Sistan and Baluchestan, including Nukabad, where the locals rallied and chanted slogans against the regime and in support for unity across Iran. “Death to the dictator!” and “Iranians, unity!”

Meanwhile, the situation continues to be very tense in Zahedan. Protests continued despite the brutal repression by the regime’s security forces. Videos show security forces directly opening fire on protesters. Meanwhile, protesters are taking shelter in alleys and continue their rallies while resisting with bare hands and rocks. Local reports indicate that dozens have been injured and killed by security forces during today’s protests.

Other reports show protest rallies in Tehran’s Naziabad district. Naziabad has been one of the most active districts of Tehran in the past weeks. During today’s protests, the locals rallied in the streets despite the heavy presence of security forces and chanted anti-regime slogans, including “Death to the dictator!” and “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!”

Protests also took place in Karaj, Talesh, Mashhad, and Isfahan. In Zahedan, people continued their resistance against the regime’s security forces. In Karaj, people chanted slogans against the regime and in support of the cities that have been under fire by the regime. In response to the regime’s brutal repression, protesters set fire to a Basij base. Basij is the main paramilitary force used to suppress protests.

Iranian opposition coalition NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi praised Iran’s Baluch community for continuing their anti-regime protests despite all the crackdown and voicing their solidarity with their Iranian compatriots, especially the brave people of Kurdistan.

“Once again, today, our brave Baluch compatriots took to the streets of Zahedan, Khash, Iranshahr, Chabahar, Pishin, and other cities. With chants of ‘Death to Khamenei,’ ‘Bassij, IRGC, you are our ISIS,’ and ‘We support Kurdistan,’ they challenged the brutal revolutionary guards,” she said. “They showed that they have no qualms about paying any price to achieve a free and democratic Iran. I urge the youth to rush to the aid of the courageous Baluch protesters, especially those wounded,” the NCRI President-elect added.

The protests in Iran began following the death of Mahsa Amini. Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, a 22-year-old woman from the city of Saqqez in Kurdistan Province, western Iran, who traveled to Tehran with her family, was arrested on Tuesday, September 13, at the entry of Haqqani Highway by the regime’s so-called “Guidance Patrol” and transferred to the “Moral Security” agency.

She was brutally beaten by the morality police and died of her wounds in a Tehran hospital on September 16. The event triggered protests that quickly spread across Iran and rekindled the people’s desire to overthrow the regime.
