On July 4, the streets of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, became a stage for organized defiance. Members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) Resistance Units took to public spaces, holding placards with powerful anti-regime messages. This was not a random protest but a strategic action to condemn the regime’s escalating suppression, particularly against the Baluch people, and to reiterate the unwavering commitment of the Iranian Resistance to overthrow the clerical dictatorship. Their actions demonstrated a cohesive, nationwide network capable of turning the regime’s atrocities into a platform for political change.

Honoring grassroots courage, exposing regime misogyny
The Resistance Units’ campaign was a direct response to the horrific events of July 1, when the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a brutal pre-dawn raid on the village of Gunich. In a shocking display of state-sponsored violence, regime forces killed 40-year-old Khan Bibi Bameri and injured at least eleven other women and girls. In the face of this assault, the unarmed women of Gunich displayed extraordinary courage, blocking roads and using stones to resist the heavily armed forces.
The Resistance Units in Zahedan immediately channeled the public’s outrage, holding placards that honored these women as national heroes. One placard read, “Our sisters in Gunich are the embodiment of the woman of resistance and freedom,” while another declared, “
The courageous resistance of Baluch women against the attacking forces demonstrates the will and capacity of Iranian women against religious fascism.” By amplifying the story of Gunich, the Resistance Units exposed the hideous face of the regime’s misogyny and warned that such brutality would only fuel the people’s determination. As one placard stated, “These deliberate bloodsheds will only intensify the fire of the people’s fury.”

Drawing a clear line: no to all forms of dictatorship
Beyond condemning the current regime, the Resistance Units used this platform to draw a clear political line against all forms of dictatorship. Several placards directly addressed recent remarks by the son of the ousted Shah, who called for cooperation with the regime’s repressive forces. One placard read, “Shame on the overt declaration of cooperation with the IRGC and Basij and the ministry of intelligence.”
This message underscores a core principle of the Iranian Resistance: the people’s fight is against the entire apparatus of oppression, and there can be no compromise with institutions built on torture and murder.
The Resistance Units made it clear that a return to the tyranny of the monarchy is not an option. As another powerful placard stated, “A dictator is a dictator, whether wearing a turban or a crown.” This sentiment was echoed in the popular slogan, “Down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs,” affirming that the Iranian people have already paid a heavy price to reject both dictatorships.

The unwavering path to a democratic future
The activities in Zahedan showcase the Resistance Units as the organized vanguard of the Iranian people’s uprising, translating popular anger into a coherent political vision. They are not merely fighting against the current regime but are actively charting the course for Iran’s future.
Their placards articulate this vision with absolute clarity: “The people of Iran demand a democratic, non-nuclear republic with the separation of religion and state.” By championing the call for “Freedom and free elections,” the Resistance is carrying forward the century-long democratic aspirations of the Iranian nation. The path forward, as illuminated by the brave actions in Zahedan, is an unwavering march “Forward toward uprising, overthrow, and a democratic revolution.”
