Despite an unprecedented wave of state-sanctioned violence by the Iranian regime, PMOI Resistance Units in Zahedan are escalating their activities across the country. The brave youths took to the streets on October 24, sending a clear and defiant message that repression will only be met with more organized resistance. Their actions prove that the Iranian people’s quest for a democratic republic cannot be silenced by the gallows.
Defiance on the streets: the voice of the resistance units
On October 24 in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, Resistance Units held placards with powerful slogans that directly confront the regime’s machinery of death and intimidation. Their messages underscore a profound courage in the face of overwhelming brutality, turning the regime’s weapons of fear back on itself. Placards boldly declared, “The real answer to execution and repression is not compromise or fear, but uprising and resistance,” and “The mullahs tried to define our fate with hangings, but we rose up in rebellion.” These actions are not just symbolic; they are a direct challenge to the regime’s authority and a beacon of hope for a population suffocating under tyranny.

The context of courage: a regime drowning in blood
The bravery of these activists is thrown into sharp relief by the regime’s escalating killing spree. Between September 23 and October 22, 2025, the theocracy executed at least 280 prisoners—a horrifying 36-year record. This brings the total number of executions since the start of the Persian year on March 21 to 1,135, a staggering 110% increase from the same period last year.
In this atmosphere of terror, the Resistance Units’ slogan, “The crime of those sentenced to death is their love for freedom,” reclaims the narrative, framing the regime’s victims as martyrs for a just cause. Their activism honors the ongoing “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, a weekly hunger strike held by prisoners in over 50 prisons across Iran, showing a united front against the regime from both inside and outside prison walls.
The regime’s war on the PMOI: from gallows to hospital beds
This wave of brutality is not random; it is one front in the regime’s all-out war on the PMOI and organized dissent. Beyond the gallows, the regime is waging a silent war of “slow-killing” through the deliberate denial of medical care to political prisoners. This calculated policy led to the death of political prisoner Somayeh Rashidi on September 25, after her life-threatening seizures were dismissed as “feigning illness.”
This is a systematic strategy of murder, and it is specifically aimed at those affiliated with the resistance. At the same time, the regime has sentenced at least 17 PMOI supporters to death. This demonstrates the regime’s deep-seated fear of the PMOI’s growing influence among Iran’s youth.

A clear vision for the future: rejecting all dictators
The Resistance Units are not just fighting against the current regime; they are fighting for a democratic future, explicitly rejecting a return to the monarchical dictatorship of the past. Their slogans leave no room for ambiguity. Placards reading “Death to the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs” and “No Shah no Mullahs is a line drawn against dictatorship and dependence” are a powerful rebuke to any notion that the Iranian people would trade one tyrant for another. Their vision is for a fundamental break from the cycle of despotism that has plagued Iran for over a century. The message is clear and forward-looking: “Our message for the future of Iran is two words: people’s sovereignty, meaning a republic.”
The Iranian regime’s escalating brutality is the ultimate proof of its weakness. Its reliance on mass executions and medical murder reveals a deep-seated panic in the face of a restive society and an increasingly organized resistance. But these barbaric acts are failing to extinguish the flames of dissent. In the face of this terror, the PMOI Resistance Units are doubling down on their mission, proving that for every act of repression, the spirit of resistance will only grow stronger.
Their unwavering commitment, encapsulated in the solemn vow, “We will fight, we will die, we will take back Iran,” is a testament to the fact that the Iranian people will not back down until they achieve their inalienable right to live in a free, secular, and democratic republic.
