Iranian security forces kill youth under torture

Iranian regime authorities in a police station in Langarud, northern Iran, have killed a youth under torture and beating. Regime authorities refused to reveal the youth’s name but locals reported that he was Mohammad Mirmousavi, a 36-year-old man from Lahijan.

The regime only admitted to Mirmousavi’s death after images published on social media showed his body at a morgue, with evident signs of severe torture.

According to reports, he was arrested by special unit forces of the county’s police and died after being “severely beaten” at the Langarud police station. His burial ceremony was held on August 27.

Security forces have pressured the Mir-Mousavi family to prevent them from releasing any details about the circumstances of his death.

In the wake of the murder of Mohammad Mirmousavi, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, said that the mullahs’ regime cannot survive even a single day without repression, torture, and executions.

She called on human rights defenders worldwide to condemn this atrocity and demanded that the regime be shunned by the international community and its leaders brought to justice.

The death of Mirmousavi comes against the backdrop of an alarming uptick in repressive measures by the regime, including more than 120 executions in the past month, including a public hanging in Shahrud on August 26.

This is not the first time news has emerged about the deaths of prisoners and detainees in Iranian prisons and detention centers. In September 2023, Javad Rouhi, a 35-year-old political prisoner, was killed under torture in Nowshahr Prison. Numerous other cases were reported in recent months and years.

At the same time, the regime is raising pressure on political prisoners by denying them access to medical care and other basic needs. The regime is also raising pressure in the streets, with a rise in violence against women and girls who do not abide by the regime’s misogynistic hijab rules.

While the regime is spending great sums to bolster its security forces and repressive apparatus, its officials are doing nothing to address the demands of different segments of society, who are constantly protesting for their most basic needs.

The alarming rise in executions coincides with the beginning of the presidency of Massoud Pezeshkian, who is being widely touted as a moderate and a reformist. The continued violence, repression, and corruption is further proof that this regime cannot be reformed.
