Iran Protests Update: UN, EU & US condemn mullahs’ human rights violations

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, December 20, 2019—Reports of the November uprising that spread to at least 191 cities checkered across Iran continue to arrive from people and activists throughout the country. The Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has to this day registered and published the names of 547 individuals killed by the mullahs’ regime as a result of the horrendous massacre and crackdown launched in response to the nationwide protests. At least 1,500 civilians were murdered by the mullahs’ oppressive security forces and these numbers are unfortunately subject to rise.

The regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, its president Hassan Rouhani, and other leaders, who have been perpetrating crimes against humanity, must face justice, said Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) coalition.

Such new reports are portraying a more vivid canvas about the atrocities committed by the mullahs’ regime and the massacre carried out by their forces, especially the terrorist-designated Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). The MEK is continuing its efforts to further obtain and publish the names of more victims killed by the regime’s security forces during the massacre.

UN condemns Iran’s human rights violations

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution censuring flagrant and systematic human rights violations in Iran.

“After 66 UN condemnation, the world community must take effective measures to stop the escalating trend of human rights abuses and the continuous crimes against humanity by the clerical regime,” said Madam Rajavi.

The Iranian regime officials responsible for the heinous atrocities in November, including Khamenei, Rouhani and other regime figures have been knee-deep in the ruling mullahs’ crimes, including the 1988 massacre that resulted in over 30,000 political prisoners executed. The November 2019 massacre proves this regime will continue its crimes against humanity to remain in power and the international community needs to take action.

European Parliament slams mullahs’ inhumane measures

Representatives of the European people adopted a strong resolution and unanimously urged the UN to launch a comprehensive investigation into the suppression of the November protests in Iran without delay. The EU, five of whose member states are in the UN Security Council, and ten of them are members of the UN Human Rights Council, should take immediate action to expedite these investigations by the UN.

The European Parliament is urging the Iranian regime to publicly announce the number of protesters killed and imprisoned; prosecute perpetrators of violence; and to lift all restrictions on the Iranian people’s access to the internet. The Iranian regime will refuse to heed to the European Parliament’s legitimate demands that reiterate those of the Iranian people. Tehran will also continue its crimes against the Iranian people, making it imperative to pull the trigger of UN Security Council sanctions.

U.S. stands with the Iranian people

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo delivered a speech on Thursday condemning the mullahs’ human rights violations against the Iranian people. The U.S. Treasury Department is also sanctioning two so-called judges involved in the mullahs’ “judiciary” and both have a long record of issuing inhumane sentences against innocent people and political/rights activists.

“Through their respective branches of the Revolutionary Courts, Abolghassem Salavati and Mohammad Moghisseh, both designated today, oversaw the Iranian regime’s miscarriage of justice in show trials in which journalists, attorneys, political activists, and members of Iran’s ethnic and religious minority groups were penalized for exercising their freedom of expression and assembly and sentenced to lengthy prison terms, lashes, and even execution,” according to the Treasury Department statement.
