Iran: Mass protests of retirees in front of Majlis; chants of “Imprisoned teachers must be freed”

Iran Uprising -No. 186

This morning, Sunday, July 22, a large crowd of retired educators and other retirees who came from different cities to Tehran rallied in front of the regime's parliament to protest not meeting their demands. In addition to retirees, educators from the Literacy Movement attended this gathering to protest their low salaries and dire livelihood status. Hundreds of agricultural insurance experts who are barred from employment after 14 years of service were also among the protesters.

The protesters chanted: Leave Syria, think about us; Imprisoned teachers must be freed; We shall not give up until we get our rights; We have no food on our table, no more injustice and suppression; Our salaries in rial, but expenditures in dollar; No nation has suffered such an injustice;  With a less embezzlement, our problems will be solved; Livelihood  and dignity is our absolute right; Our enemy is right here, they are lying it is the United States; Organization and gathering is our absolute right; Death to the tyrant; We cry against all this injustice; Our need today is livelihood and treatment.

By threatening other people the repressive forces that were tightly stationed in the area tried to prevent them from joining the gathering and taking pictures and films. Retirees tore off their wage slips and chanted: “this wage slip is not what we deserve”. They marched toward the Planning and Budget Organization while chanting: “Imprisoned teachers must be freed.”

At the same time, retirees of steel factories from Kerman, Isfahan, Mashhad, Mobarakeh, Zirab, Tabas, Semnan, Shahrood and Sangrood who have gone to Tehran staged a protest gathering in front of the Pension Fund of these factories at Vozara Ave. They are demanding payment of their salaries and health insurance.

The people looted by the Samen Al-Hojaj Institute also gathered in front of the Institute’s office in Tehran and asked for giving back their plundered deposits.

In yet another development, retired educators in Mashhad protested in front of the governorate against not receiving their demands. They carried placards which read: "We want comprehensive and effective insurance; reduce embezzlement, solve our problem."

The Iranian Resistance salutes protesting educators, retirees and the looted, and reiterates that poverty, unemployment, and destruction of environment is the gift of the corrupt ruling mullahs. The overthrow of this regime and the establishment of democracy is the first step for equality, justice and prosperity in Iran.
