Iran, September 2, 2020—Over 98,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 410 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, September 2. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 21,797, around a fifth of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 23,865 in Tehran, 6969 in Razavi Khorasan, 4585 in Qom, 4425 in Isfahan, 4300 in Lorestan, 2808 in Golestan, 2803 in Alborz, 2752 in Fars, 2006 in Kurdistan, 1554 in North Khorasan, 1314 in Hormozgan, 1213 in Bushehr, 849 in Qazvin, and 635 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

While the number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths continues to rise in Iran, regime President Hassan Rouhani once again resorted to a new series of lies. “From Saturday, September 5, the new school year ceremony begins… We can both go to school and abide by all hygiene protocols,” he said.
“Students will all be going to class on Saturday, be it in red zones, yellow or white all across the country,” said Education Minister Mohsen Haji Mirzaie on Wednesday, according to the state-run Iran Press news agency.
All the while, Minoo Mohraz, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force warned about sending kids to back to school. “Schools are considered the most dangerous place to transfer the novel coronavirus. Even if individuals wearing masks are together in closed environments for a long time, there is a possibility of the illness being transferred to others,” she explained on Wednesday, according to the Asre Iran daily.
Hossein Ali Shahriari, the head of the Health Commission of the Majlis (parliament), said, “Sixty percent of the deprived people of Sistan and Baluchistan don’t have the means to buy masks, and unfortunately, our requests for free masks from the government have not been answered yet. Poverty has resulted in some citizens not using sanitation products. We discussed this issue in the Majlis time and again that a considerable percent of the population can’t buy masks. Our request was for the government to distribute masks for free or at least sell them at the low price of 50,000 rials. I also raised this issue in the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, but we haven’t been able to provide this service to the people.” (Source: Tasnim News Agency, September 1)
In Tehran, Alireza Zali, the head of the Coronavirus Task Force, warned about the increase in the use of public transport facilities causing further spread of the virus, according to Mehr News Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). “Every day, one million people enter Tehran in the early morning hours and leave the city at the close of the day. Every day, 400,000 vehicles enter Tehran from Alborz province,” Zali said, further warning about the prospects of a third wave of coronavirus infections.
The caretaker of Alborz Medical Sciences University said, “The total number of deaths in the province has reached 953. There are 412 people hospitalized in treatment centers and the number of critical patients has reached 102 in the past 24 hours.” (Source: ISNA, September 2)
The dean of Qom Medical Sciences University, “The spread of the virus in Qom is still on an upward and alarming trend. As fall begins, we should expect a third wave of the disease. In the current situation the physical reopening of schools is not justified. Many of the people who are hospitalized today have contracted the virus for the second time. “The number of Covid-19 deaths in [West Azerbaijan province] has reached 867. We have 99 patients in ICUs, of which 34 are in dire condition and connected to ventilators,” said the deputy of provincial local Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday, according to Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
