While regime officials in various provinces are reporting deteriorating circumstances and the Health Ministry spokesperson reported that 26 provinces across the country are considered red zones, the mullahs’ President Hassan Rouhani continued his series of lies with new remarks on Saturday. “Covid-19 has begun to decrease in many provinces,” he claimed, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

He once again held the people responsible for the Covid-19 spread in Iran, saying during the first wave “some people thought this illness is serious, but it has a very short period,” but this illness “is not for just one or two months; it may be here for years,” he said. Rouhani has forgotten that back in late February he claimed that everything would return to normal by February 29.

In Qom province, head of the Qom Medical Sciences University said the result of 50 percent of Covid-19 tests have been positive, whereas around mid to late May these numbers stood at 15 percent. Considering the speed that this virus is spreading, this is very concerning. “The number of Covid-19 cases and deaths are more than the statistics announced because many individuals have had early symptoms, but their tests were not positive, and they were not registered in the statistics. If we are not careful conditions in Qom will return to those we witnessed back in February,” said the deputy dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The number of Covid-19 patients in the past month has increased by eight-fold,” said the head of the Qom Health Center on Sunday, according to Mehr.

“The number of Covid-19 cases in Gilan province have increased by 100 percent. Currently the cities of Rasht, Lahijan, Talesh, Langarud, Astara and Rudsar are in considered red zones and the number of Covid-19 cases in these areas are high. The number of patients released on a daily basis have decreased in Gilan province,” said the deputy dean of Gilan Medical Sciences University on Friday. “The process of providing medical treatment to Covid-19 patients have lengthened and this means these patients are being hospitalized in more intense conditions. Moreover, there is a heavier burden on our medical professionals,” he added, according to the Tasnim news agency, affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

The spokesperson for the health ministry in Hormozgan province said, “The situation of the epidemic in this province is very fragile. Currently, five counties in this province are in code-red conditions, including Kish, Parsian, Jask, Qeshm, and Minab. Bandar Leng-e is in alarming conditions. The Abu Musa island, which was the only green and coronavirus-free zone of Iran entered yellow state last week.” (Source: IRNA, August 15)

The dean of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University said, “In the past 24 hours, there were eight more coronavirus deaths in Hormozgan. Currently, 290 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in Hormozgan’s hospitals, 54 patients are in the ICU and 22 patients are on ventilator support.” (Source: Mehr News Agency, August 15)

“The number of Covid-19 cases and deaths have tripled in comparison to the past few months. We have had an average number of 100 new cases each day since July 22,” said the governor of Markazi (Central) province on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of dire patients has reached 118 in the past 24 hours,” said the head of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “How the virus is spreading in Alborz province is unacceptable. 422 people have sought medical care in the past 24 hours across this province,” he added, according to the IRGC-linked Fars news agency.
