Reporting by PMOI/MEK
Iran, July 24, 2020—Over 75,900 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 347 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, July 24. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 15,289 around a fifth of the actual figure.
The death toll in various provinces include: 18,800 in Tehran, 5,625 in Razavi Khorasan, 5,550 in Khuzestan, 2,285 in West Azerbaijan, 2,215 in East Azerbaijan, 1,870 in Fars, 1,055 in North Khorasan, 817 in Bushehr, 710 in Zanjan, 585 in Ilam, and 267 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.
Over 75,900 dead of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Iran
While the regime’s Health Ministry spokesperson acknowledged that 25 of Iran’s 31 provinces are in code red or alarming circumstances, and while even the regime’s own engineered statistics are breaking records on a daily basis, regime President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday returned to his preposterous remarks.
“The reason behind the second Covid-19 wave in various parts of the country is not due to a return to economic and social activities. In fact, people failing to precisely and fully abide by hygiene protocols, and holding events and gatherings, such as weddings and mourning ceremonies, are to blame,” he said.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi said the number of coronavirus deaths “have increased by 50 percent since February and March, all due to the actions and measures that we carried out in June, and the result of ending the lockdown,” according to the semi-official ILNA news agency.
On Thursday morning, the Resalat daily linked to the faction of regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei wrote: “Despite the fact that statistics show a new record and a dangerous increase of this virus, it appears that the policies of our officials, especially the President, is based on each individual contracting this virus at least once. At times general remarks are made by officials and even experts that if health protocols are not respected the virus will have a larger spread. All people across Iran know this already. However, practical measures are needed to prevent the spread of this virus… One of the existing problems is that unfortunately individuals with no expertise are in professional posts, such as the President!”
Harirchi also described the more than 200 daily Covid-19 deaths as very high numbers in comparison to the “more than 60 daily deaths” during the 1980s Iran-Iraq War. “Currently, more than 20 percent of the country’s deaths are due to the novel coronavirus. Prior to this all other infectious illnesses accumulated to less than 20 percent of all deaths,” he added on Friday, according to the state-run Aftab News.

In Mazandaran of northern Iran, physicians’ reports indicate at least 2,800 coronavirus patients in hospitals across this province. The Razi Hospital in the city of Ghaemshahr and Imam Hospital in the city of Amol each have more than 200 Covid-19 patients. The circumstances in these two cities are catastrophic.
The hospitals in the city of Sari are nearing their capacity limits. In the city of Juybar there are no empty beds. Eighty percent of the beds in the city of Behshahr, 90 percent in Babol, and 70 percent in the cities of Chalus and Noshahr are occupied with Covid-19 patients. At the current trend all beds will be filled in alarming speed. More than 1,200 members of the medical staff in this province have contracted the virus and 450 of them are on sick leave.
“Currently, 1,214 patients with Covid-19 symptoms are hospitalized across [Fars] province and 116 patients are in ICU. During the past 24-hour period, 13 people have lost their lives,” according on a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Office of the Shiraz Medical Sciences University.
“Currently, most of the areas in [Zanjan] province are considered code red zones,” according to the deputy dean of Zanjan Medical Sciences University. “Considering the cold seasons of the year ahead of us, providing medical services to the patients will be a serious challenge,” he said on Friday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.
