Iran coronavirus update: Over 511,800 deaths, alarming number of cases among children

Over 511,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, February 23. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 135,726, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 119,855 in Tehran, 41,065 in Razavi Khorasan, 35,540 in Isfahan, 30,825 in Khuzestan, 19,590 in Fars, 19,258 in West Azerbaijan, 18,410 in Mazandaran, 17,645 in Gilan, 16,770 in Lorestan, 14,883 in Alborz, 14,070 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 13,902 in Kerman, 13,700 in Qom, 9604 in Kermanshah, 9473 in Hamedan, 9313 in Markazi (Central), 8468 in Yazd, 8402 in Kurdistan, 6725 in Semnan, 6613 in North Khorasan, 6084 in Qazvin, 4935 in Zanjan, 3960 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and 3884 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Wednesday as 15,340 new cases and 227 deaths. Furthermore, 3984 patients are in ICUs and 2333 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“We cannot forecast precisely how long the sixth peak will last.”

The number of people hospitalized is high and we currently have 4100 patients and around 700 patients are hospitalized each day. Around 9000 people are seeking initial medical care per day. The number of people hospitalized in ICUs is around 1100 and we have 240 people being hospitalized in ICUs each day,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The spokesperson for the Hormozgan Medical Sciences University said on Wednesday that the number of children hospitalized for coronavirus has increased 100-fold in comparison to two months ago, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of deaths during the sixth peak is concerning. In the coming days, the number of deaths due to omicron will increase and this will significantly raise our concerns,” said the director of medical care in Ardabil Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“During the past 24 hours 11 people have lost their lives to coronavirus and 126 new patients have been hospitalized in medical centers,” said the spokesperson of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Each day we are conducting 400 to 500 coronavirus tests, of which 99 percent are positive. This center has a record of more than 900 coronavirus tests per day,” according to an ISNA report on Wednesday from Semnan, east of Tehran.

“Each day we have 335 coronavirus patients hospitalized in Razavi Khorasan province. We have 1145 patients hospitalized, of which 267 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University.
