Regime President Hassan Rouhani once again held the Iranian people responsible for the Covid-19 crisis in Iran, claiming that the fourth peak has passed. “There are other mutations, however. Recently the Indian variant of this virus has been detected in various cases in some parts of the country. We need to put in dire efforts to prevent the spread of this variant to the central and northern parts of our country. This is extremely important for us,” Rouhani said on Saturday. “Senior citizens and those who have underlying illnesses, accounting to around 14 to 15 million people, are in need of vaccines. Right now, we have five million doses,” he added. All the while, Rouhani said these people will be vaccinated by June 21.

“If we have even the slightest negligence the new Indian variant can engulf most of our cities and this is a warning to us,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “In the provinces of Bushehr, Sistan & Baluchistan, Kerman, Kermanshah and Hormozgan the number of people who have contracted this variant is on the rise. This is an alarm bell and a warning, and we must be incredibly careful about this. There are 13 cities in the aforementioned provinces that were previously registered as orange zones and are now considered red zones,” he added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The number of people hospitalized in ICU sections has increased by 71 percent in comparison to last week. During the past week, the number of positive cases identified has increased by 24 percent and those hospitalized has increased by 16 percent,” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Friday. “In June of last year, we had 30 to 40 positive cases registered per day. This year, however, these stats have increased by ten-fold and even in one of these recent days there were 700 positive coronavirus cases identified across Hormozgan province,” this official added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“We need to make decisions as soon as possible to prevent this recent coronavirus wave from spreading from the city of Sarpol Zahab to others in this province,” said the governor of Kermanshah province in western Iran on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“City governors need to assume the fifth peak has begun and should plan for the [June 18 presidential] elections as such. Some provinces in [Kerman] province, including Bam, are in far worse conditions than they are officially declaring,” said the governor of Kerman province on Friday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have had 467 new coronavirus cases and around 190 being hospitalized. The number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 across [West Azerbaijan] province currently stands at 989, of which 202 are in ICUs,” said the spokesperson of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The city of Isfahan and 14 other cities and towns are registered as orange zones while there are nine cities and towns [in Isfahan province] registered as yellow zones. There are no blue cities and towns,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
