Masoud Mardani, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force, reported a number of ‘black fungus’ cases among coronavirus patients in Tehran. “There have yet to be any officially announced cases, but there have been single digit cases of coronavirus patients who have recovered but due to the fact that they have used certain medicine they have now contracted fungus infections,” he said on Tuesday. “If a fungus infection begins to spread throughout the society it will lead to deaths such as those seen in India that are showing dangerous variants these days,” he added, according to the state-run Eghtesad News daily.

“The number of coronavirus cases are rising [in Hormozgan province] and all signs indicate that this province is beginning to enter its fifth peak. Hormozgan province with five cities registered as red zones currently has the worse conditions across the country,” according to a senior official in the city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, currently we have 32 villages and five district capitals near the city of Bandar Abbas that have been quarantined due to their serious circumstances and high number of new cases. If these circumstances continue so will the quarantine measures,” this official added, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“The novel coronavirus remains extremely powerful, and people should not think that it has come to an end. In [Khuzestan] province we have more than 1165 coronavirus patients, indicating that we should not think this is over,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have had 191 new coronavirus patients hospitalized, while 177 were released and 20 who lost their lives to Covid-19,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
