“In February and early March we will witness a strange peak of new coronavirus cases and most certainly a large number of people will lose their lives,” said the chair of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Commission on Tuesday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“In my opinion it was too soon to reopen the economy because we will once again witness a rise in the number of cases. Some officials were very hasty in reopening the economy. People are paying the price of officials’ contradictory behavior,” said Minoo Mohraz, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday. “Our medical professionals may not be able to cope with the next Covid-19 peak as they are extremely fatigued. Has there been an Iranian vaccine that we are rushing into reopening the economy in such manner,” she asked, according to the state controlled Jahan-e San’at daily.

Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force warned of the increase in the number of people coronavirus patients being hospitalized and the number of people seeking medical treatment for Covid-19 on a daily basis. “The number of people seeking medical treatment for coronavirus is the first alarm bell that can indicate a new wave of the illness. In the past two weeks we have witnessed an increasing trend in the number of people hospitalized among those aged five to 17,” he said on Tuesday. “Although the death rate in people under the age of ten is low, we are seeing deaths increase even among this age group. During the past week for the first time we saw the number of people hospitalized reach 1900, of which around 760 are in ICUs,” Zali added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Last week we had a 64 percent increase in the number of new cases, 31 percent increase in the number of people hospitalized, and seven percent in deaths,” said the deputy dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University on Tuesday. “If this continues, we will witness a peak of this illness in February or early March. If Covid-19 increases yet again, it will become far more intense. Even if there is an effective vaccine, it may take one or two years for the entire population to obtain access,” the official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“In Mazandaran province the situation is getting worse and each day more cities and villages are added to the number of red zones,” according to a Tuesday reported wired by the Mehr news agency. “The number of rural residents being hospitalized is on the rise. Villages are becoming even more dangerous than the cities. The mayor of Amol said 13 villages are in concerning conditions, adding five to six villages are currently under full quarantine restrictions,” the report adds.

Dean of Kerman Medical Sciences University said the number of positive Covid-19 tests are increasing in comparison to two weeks ago. “A number of these people may be hospitalized or even placed in ICUs, and the number of deaths may rise. Therefore, we are forecasting that in February or March we will witness a significant peak. More than 80 percent of the individuals that are placed under ventilators end up losing their lives,” the official added, according to the IRGC Quds Force-affiliated Tasnim news agency.

“The concerning increase in the number of new patients, especially in the warmer climate cities has sounded the alarm bell of the fourth wave,” said the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The number of new cases and people being hospitalized has increased. If protocols are not abided by, we will return to the days when the virus was very deadly,” said the secretary of the South Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday.
