Iran, December 27, 2020—Over 192,800 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 475 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Sunday afternoon local time, December 27. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 54,693 less than a third of the actual figure.
The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 47,364 in Tehran, 13,185 in Razavi Khorasan, 11,650 in Isfahan, 9830 in Khuzestan, 7267 in Mazandaran, 6841 in Gilan, 5905 in Fars, 4711 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 4179 in Kerman, 4054 in Kermanshah, 4013 in Markazi, 3311 in Kurdistan, 2362 in Ardabil, 2012 in Zanjan, 1990 in Ilam, 1929 in Bushehr, and 1510 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

Public anger is escalating across Iran over the regime’s continued delay in purchasing the vaccine. “Three fourth of the content on the internet is aimed at provoking public opinion to purchase the vaccine,” said regime Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani. “The enemy is busy exaggerating minor and insignificant issues, and through exaggeration they are saying that our system is not functioning… Our friends at the Health Ministry say the daily stats reported in Europe and the U.S. are not true. If people with underlying illnesses contract Covid-19 and die are not registered as coronavirus deaths,” he claimed on Saturday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.
Regime President Hassan Rouhani had made vague remarks on Saturday regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. “We are not willing for our people to go through the period of using unreliable vaccines,” he said.
“The vaccine that we have purchased is Chinese but the Food and Drug Organization is strictly overseeing all medications and vaccines,” said Karim Hemmati, head of the regime’s Red Crescent said on Saturday, according to the state-controlled Khabar Online website.
“Unfortunately some people are exaggerating the matters at hand in an attempt to divert public opinion from issues such as providing medicine and the Covid-19 vaccine to other matters,” said Sadegh Larijani, head of the regime’s Expediency Council on Sunday, according to the semi-official ILNA news agency. He continued to express grave concerns about the complicated issue of the regime being blacklisted by the FATF.
“We can’t tolerate more despair and our officials need to think of something quick for the people’s well-being,” said the head of the Tehran City Council Health Committee on Sunday. “Our medical staff, including physicians and nurses, have suffered immensely during the past year of this epidemic and crisis, ,” this officially added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
“In Tehran 35,000 nurses are currently providing medical care and to this day nearly 12,000 nurses have contracted Covid-19,” said a senior official of the Greater Tehran Nursing Apparatus on Sunday, according to the semi-official ILNA news agency.
“From December 22 to this day the number of people being hospitalized has been rising slowly in comparison to those being released. We could face a fourth peak in the coming days yet we are hoping that we never experience the harsh dark days of late October and November,” said the dean of Sabzevar Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. This school is in Razavi Khorasan province in northeast Iran.
“During the past 24 hours we have seen the number of people being hospitalized double,” said the Covid-1 Task Force chair of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The current increase in the number of new cases is the continuation of the third wave that [Mazandaran] province was already witnessing its early days and we are still in this phase,” said the deputy dean of Mazandaran Medical Sciences University on Saturday. “Another reason for the increase in the number of new cases is the possible mutation of this virus, our lack of information about this virus, and people contracting the illness once again,” this official added, according to Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
All the while, the governor of Mazandaran province called on the media “to inform the public about the increasing spread of Covid-19. Currently 1147 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, of which 233 are in dire conditions,” according to a Sunday report wired by the semi-official ILNA news agency.
“If officials fail to quickly see to the problems at hand, we will be facing an unknown future during the coronavirus and post-coronavirus period,” according to an article published by the state-controlled Arman daily on Sunday. “We must fear the day that in the face of a volcano of anger, despair and tears we will not be able to do anything. And then it will be too late to talk about solutions. We must fear the day that we will not be able to control the volcano of the starving public.”
