Reporting by PMOI/MEK

The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 48,628, nearly a fourth of the actual figure.

“The government’s strategy to address Covid-19 is completely wrong and we have been criticizing it for some time,” said Seyed Mohsen Dehnavi, a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) presidium on Monday. “Regarding the city of Tehran all the experts believed the government must impose a period of lockdown and harsh restrictions over commuting. The lockdown imposed by the government in the first week was not effective because banks were not closed, many administrative offices were only half-closed, and companies were open for business. Only a small number of stores and markets were closed while the streets were busy. At a time when the government keeps many stores and administrative offices open, but calls on the Majlis to be closed, such practices indicate that they are seeking specific political motives,” he added, according to a news agency linked to the Majlis.

“Tehran remains a red zone despite changes seen in various cities. The number of deaths is not the main index for designating a city as a red zone. The number of people hospitalized are what matters,” said the spokesperson of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Monday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“[Tehran] province suffers from a historical hygiene and medical setback. The country has one clinic for every 1,100 persons, and in Tehran there is a clinic for every 3300 people,” said the governor of Tehran province in a meeting with other provincial governors.

“There is one urban medical center available for every 10,000 people throughout the country. In Tehran it is one medical center for every 52,000 people,” according to a Tuesday report wired by IRNA.

A spokesperson for the Isfahan Medical Sciences University said the number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 stands at 1637, of which 376 are in ICUs. 32 coronavirus patients have lost their lives in the past 24 hours, according to a Tuesday report wired by IRNA.

In Fars province, deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University said 32 people have died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, placing the total number of this province at 2525 coronavirus fatalities. “We have 2026 hospitalized patients, of which 341 are in ICUs,” the official said on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

The dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University described conditions in this province in northwest Iran as critical. “Our medical facilities can no longer accept new patients. If this trend continues there will be increasing pressure on our medical centers,” the official said on Tuesday, according to IRNA. “Nine percent of Covid-19 patients are dying, and these numbers need to drop immediately. The death count is higher than previous weeks,” the deputy dean of this university said on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The highest [Covid-19] numbers are reported from the city of Yasuj [in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmed province]. One can hardly believe any restrictions have been imposed,” according to a Tuesday report wired by IRNA. “Ever since the restrictions have been enforced, not only internet but telephone lines have no reception in this region… At times patients are forced to wait hours in small rooms without any disinfectant measures,” according to an IRNA report wired on Tuesday.
