“The Covid-19 spread in Tehran remains genuinely concerning. Air pollution and cold weather has increased the spread of coronavirus,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Haririchi on Friday. “In Tehran and 45 other extremely infected cities we are in need of harsh decisions to implement restriction abiding by health regulations,” he added, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

In Tehran, all beds in the general and ICU sections of Modaress Sa’adat Abad Hospital have been allocated to coronavirus patients since late September, according to reports from medical professionals. During the past two weeks all beds have been constantly filled and 130 ICU beds have been providing care to Covid-19 patients. Physicians, nurses and the entire medical staff are fatigued, and the incentives promised by regime officials have not been provided for. The hospital is facing extreme shortages financially and regarding equipment. 220 members of the medical staff have contracted Covid-19 and 30 of them are constantly on sick leave. During the past month around 150 coronavirus patients have lost their lives in this hospital.

According to physician reports from Qom, at least 25 Covid-19 patients have died in the Beheshti hospital on Wednesday.

According to reports by doctors in Razavi Khorasan province, there have been more than 60 Covid-19 deaths in Quchan county in the past 10 days. As reported by ILNA news agency, the governor of Neyshabur, another county in Razavi Khorsan, said on Thursday, “The number of deaths in villages and cities are equivalent. In Neyshabur, there are 8000 patients with Covid-19 symptoms, 20 percent of whom need to be hospitalized. But we don’t have the proper facilities. We currently need 120 beds, treatment facilities, staff, oxygen capsules, and equipment.”

The spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University said, “There are currently 1,635 coronavirus patients in the province, aside from Kashan, Aran, and Bidgol.” There are 321 patients in critical conditions, the spokesperson added, according to the Moj News Agency.

In Lorestan province, the head of Nurabad’s Ibn Sina hospital said, “The ICU section of this hospital has been filled. The third wave is deadlier than the first and second waves, and not a day goes by without Covid-19 deaths. I sincerely say that we have tough days ahead.” (Source: Fars News Agency, October 15)

The dean of the Sadoughi Medical Sciences University in Yazd province said on Thursday, “This province tops all provinces in terms of covid-19 cases and hospitalized patients.  There are 440 hospitalized patients, 70 of whom are in the emergency section and waiting for beds to be freed. In the past three weeks, the number of new cases has increased from 372 to 497. Given the trend of the spread, we’ll need 700-800 new beds to hospitalize new patients in the next week. The non-emergency surgeries of the hospital have been suspended, and the furlough of the medical staff have been cancelled for the next week.” (Source: IRNA news agency, October 15)
