Further Iran protests reported in Haft Tappeh of Shuhsh and numerous cities

Iran, September 3, 2020—On Sunday, September 1, a group of firefighters in the city of Abadan, southwest Iran, protested for their delayed paychecks, insurance premiums and proper equipment.

“Firefighters have a difficult and dangerous job. However, the fire department is failing to provide proper suits, boots and other protective equipment.” he added.

On Wednesday, September 2, fired workers of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company continued their protest rally in front of the governorate in the city of Shush, the local labor office. They also gathered outside the office of Kaab Omair, the Majlis (parliament) member representing the city of Shush in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran. The pretesting workers demanded their immediate return to work and changes to their temporary contract.

The most important issues raised in the workers’ demands during this strike are as follows:

  • Immediate payment of delayed paychecks and renewal of their insurance booklets
  • Immediate return to work for fired colleagues
  • Immediate arrest of Omid Assadbeigi (CEO of the Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Complex) and life imprisonment for this corrupt individual
  • Immediate dismissal of corrupt employers from Haft Tappeh
  • Immediate return of embezzled wealth to the workers
  • Ending the careers of already retired managers

On September 1, municipal workers of Sisakht, a city in southern Iran, protested local officials’ refusal to deliver on their paychecks for the past eight months.

“Due to the widespread coronavirus pandemic and the dreadful financial situation, our wages have been delayed for eight months. However, we have no choice but to work despite all the difficulties,” the protesting workers said.

Also, it is worth noting that the employer is not delivering on the worker’s insurance premiums.
