Dec. 16, 2018 – A conference was recently held in the parliament of Australia’s New South Wales Province marking International Human Rights Day. This conference was co-chaired by Dr. Meredith Burgmann, former president of the New South Wales Legislative Council; Mr. Peter Murphy, Australian MP from the Labor Party and former shadow minister of sports; David Shoebridge, Australian MP from the Greens Party; Dr. Phil Glendenning, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice; and Maryam Sadeghpour of the Association in Defense of Human Rights in Iran-Australia.

The participants in this conference issued a resolution calling on the Australian government to adopt a firm policy vis-à-vis the terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran.

At the beginning of this conference, following an opening speech delivered by Dr. Meredith Burgmann, Lynda Jane Voltz, an Australian politician and Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, also marked International Human Rights Day and condemned the oppression of women by the misogynist regime ruling Iran. She also hailed the women’s role in the Iranian Resistance – represented by the opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) – and expressed her support and solidarity with the Iranian people’s protests and uprising.

David Shoebridge, Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council and a supporter of the Iranian Resistance, spokes as another speaker at this event. Shoebridge emphasized the fact that the regime ruling Iran is the world record-holder in executions and condemned the Iranian regime’s human rights violations. The Iranian people have shown they loathe the ruling regime and are demanding a state based on freedom.

We are standing alongside the Iranian people and Resistance and wish you the best, he emphasized.

Dr. Phil Glendenning, Director of the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice, condemned the Iranian regime’s unbridled support for terrorism. He expressed his support for the Iranian Resistance and uprising while emphasizing the misogynist mullahs ruling Iran are terrified that a brave woman such as Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi is leading the resistance against their rule.

Maryam Sadeghpour evaluated the Iranian people’s uprising and called on the Australian government to adopt a firm policy against the terrorist mullahs.
