Iran: New cyberattack takes down regime ministry

More than 100 servers and computers, dozens of applications and databases, 37 websites and 12 internal applications associated to the Iranian’s “Ministry of Agriculture Jihad” (MAJ) were taken down on Monday, April 25. Images of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi, and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) were posted on these MAJ websites along with an image of regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with a red X. The slogans “Hail to Rajavi” and “Death to Khamenei” were also seen.

“A major cyber attack targeting the websites, applications, databases of the regime’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad are a campaign and response to the regime’s crackdown against protests by Iran’s oppressed farmers, especially those in Isfahan,” according to social media accounts of “Ghyam Sarnegouny,” meaning “Uprising – Overthrow” in Persian.

On November 25, 2021, the regime’s State Security Force and special units of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) attacked protesting farmers in the city of Isfahan who were holding a sit-in on the Zayandeh Rud riverbed. The attacking forces stormed into the protest site with vehicles and motorbikes, using tear gas and setting fire to the farmers’ tents. The SSF and IRGC units resorted to directly firing at the protesting farmers. Pellet rounds were also used that blinded several the defenseless farmers.

The regime’s “Ministry of Agriculture Jihad” implements the mullahs’ inhuman policies in coordination with the IRGC and IRGC Basij. This institution is the main element behind the destruction of Iran’s agriculture, an increasing number of the country’s farmers being pushed into poverty, the skyrocketing prices of food stuffs, and Iran’s environment being literally destroyed.

The IRGC is known for its plundering of Iran’s water resources, digging tunnels to transfer water, and constructing cities and towns in an uncontrolled manner to sell to the Iranian population and pocket massive profits. These measures are carried out through IRGC projects in collaboration with the “Ministry of Agriculture Jihad” that have resulted in large agricultural areas being destroyed.

The MAJ, in coordination with the IRGC Basij, is the regime’s institution behind the plundering of Iran’s farmers, livestock owners, and chicken farmers. MAJ, alongside other entities linked to the regime, have stolen a significant percentage of the country’s oil revenues to import massive volumes of goods.

The MAJ is headed by Javad Sadatinejad since August 2021.

Sadati Nejad has a long history with the Basij, the paramilitary arm of the IRGC that is deeply involved in the suppression of protesters and dissidents in Iran.

On March 25, Peyman Jebeli, head of the regime’s “Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting,” warned about the impact of state TV/radio programs being targeted in cyberattacks.

The IRIB is the target of “tens of thousands of cyberattacks” on a daily basis, and the previous cyberattack targeting IRIB was a “carefully calculated measure,” Jebeli explained.

In the fall of 2021, following the cyberattack that disrupted thousands of gas stations across Iran, Fereydoon Abbasi, a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament), said there have been many cyberattacks that have not been covered by the media. The relevant institutions had neutralized a portion of these attacks, but in some cases, such as the cyberattack that disrupted the country’s gas stations, there was systematic error and the officials involved were not able to neutralize the attack, he added.
