Iran coronavirus update: Over 517,100 deaths, numbers continue to rise dangerously

Over 517,100 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Thursday afternoon local time, March 3. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 137,267, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 121,355 in Tehran, 41,395 in North Khorasan, 35,960 in Isfahan, 31,080 in Khuzestan, 19,900 in Fars, 19,498 in West Azerbaijan, 17,908 in East Azerbaijan, 17,795 in Gilan, 15,093 in Alborz, 14,122 in Kerman, 13,805 in Qom, 9815 in Semnan, 9563 in Hamedan, 4933 in Ilam, 4631 in South Khorasan, and 3995 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“The numbers of coronavirus patients hospitalized per day has increased by 20.5 percent and ICU patients by 27 percent,” said the deputy dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“15 cities in [Kerman] province are registered as red zones, six are orange, and two are yellow. During the past 24 hours 108 patients have been hospitalized and 16 coronavirus patients have lost their lives,” said the spokesperson of Kerman Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“We have 1119 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 169 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours 17 covid patients lost their lives,” according to a joint statement released by the Isfahan and Kashan Medical Sciences universities on Thursday.

“During this period 14 patients lost their lives”

“With 113 coronavirus patients being hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the total number of covid patients [in Fars province] currently stands at 879, of which 169 are in ICUs. During this period 14 patients lost their lives,” according to a statement released Thursday by the Shiraz Medical Sciences University.

“During the past 24 hours 6613 people have sought initial treatment in various medical centers and 13 coronavirus patients have lost their lives,” according to a statement released by the Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University in Ahvaz on Thursday regarding Khuzestan province.

During the past 24 hours 234 coronavirus patients were hospitalized in Razavi Khorasan province, according to a Thursday report wired by the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). This province currently has 847 patients hospitalized, of which 221 are in ICUs, the report adds.

There are currently 616 coronavirus patients hospitalized in West Azerbaijan province, of which 182 are in ICUs and 52 are under ventilators, according to a report wired on Thursday by the regime’s official IRIB news agency.
