While the coronavirus death toll in Iran closes in on 500,000 due to the regime’s criminal and plundering policies, Hossein Salami, head of the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), made deceptive remarks on Sunday. “Our enemies are on the verge of succumbing to coronavirus, and you see that their high number of deaths. Thanks to Islam and [regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei], wisdom and faith, we have been able to fight it,” he said, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of positive cases identified across the country to this day has been 159: 45 in Hormozgan, 35 in Mashhad, 28 in Tehran, 9 in Isfahan, 9 in Mazandaran, 8 in Yazd, 6 in Zahedan, 4 in Babol, 3 in Bushehr, 3 in Qom, 3 in Tabriz, 2 in Shiraz, 1 in Alborz, 1 in Arak, 1 in Shahrekord, and 1 in Urmia,” said the caretaker of the regime’s Health Ministry Public Relations Office on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The death toll was extremely high in the fifth peak. Personally, after being a doctor for 45 years, I had never issued so many death certificates as I did during that period. It was my worst experience and unfortunately we had a high number of deaths,” said Minoo Mohraz, a senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“The number of people hospitalized per day in Razavi Khorasan province has reached 138 and the number of people seeking initial medical care is increasing,” according to a statement issued by the Mashhad Medical Sciences University on Sunday.

“45 confirmed omicron cases have been registered in [Hormozgan] and this province ranks first in the country. The coronavirus illness is once again on the rise and the stats show this escalation,” said the spokesperson of the Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the IRGC Quds Force.

“If vaccination is not completed the new coronavirus variant will spread fast across [East Azerbaijan] province. We still have five or six deaths each day due to covid,” said the deputy dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Many parents have taken matters into their own hands and fearing omicron they’re not sending their kids to school. Many of the classrooms are nearly empty as less than half of the students are attending. Teachers are confused between teaching with students in their classrooms or online,” according to a piece published on Sunday by the state-run Shahre Ara daily.
