Iran coronavirus update: Over 481,400 deaths, more concerns raised over re-openings

Over 481,400 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, November 26. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 129,462, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 112,825 in Tehran, 32,995 in Isfahan, 29,260 in Khuzestan, 18,038 in West Azerbaijan, 17,910 in Fars, 16,745 in Gilan, 14,133 in Alborz, 13,370 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 12,902 in Kerman, 10,535 in Golestan, 8954 in Kermanshah, 8788 in Markazi (Central), 5374 in Bushehr, and 3700 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Friday as 86 deaths and 4384 new cases. Furthermore, 3372 patients are in ICUs and 720 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“Qom is among those areas that are the most vulnerable for entering the sixth coronavirus peak. The reopening of schools, universities, and sports centers without imposing smart restrictions is wrong. Qom’s vulnerable spot regarding coronavirus is the schools and if we enter the sixth wave it will be through this soft spot,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Each day we are witnessing an increase in the number of positive cases and those being hospitalized for coronavirus in [South Khorasan] province. If this increasing trend of new cases and those being hospitalized continues, the beginning of the sixth peak is not far off,” according to a statement released on Friday by the South Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force.

In Yazd province the number of patients in ICUs is on the rise. “We currently have 389 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 110 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Friday by the Yazd Medical Sciences University.

“Of the 379 PCR tests taken by the Yasuj province lab, the highest number of positive cases were in the cities of Boyer Ahmad, Kohgiluyeh, and Dena,” said the dean of Yasuj Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Excessive emphasis on vaccination”, “presenting high vaccination numbers,” “the normalization of this illness,” and “vast re-openings across the country” has rendered a new wave, according to the state-run Arman daily in a piece published on Friday. “More than 75 percent of all the schools lack the necessary conditions to reopen and a significant percentage of our teachers and school staff, along with the students, have not been vaccinated,” the piece adds.
