In memory of PMOI member Noushin Namvar: 49 years of resistance against two dictatorships

It is with heavy hearts that we declare the passing of Noushin Namvar, a member of the Central Council of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Albania, after 49 years of struggle against two dictatorships.

Born in Tehran in 1960, Noushin Namvar became acquainted with the ideals of the Mojahedin in 1977, during her final years of high school. In 1978, together with her friends, she actively participated in demonstrations and the uprising against the monarchical dictatorship.

Following the anti-monarchical revolution in 1979, Noushin Namvar became a full-time activist within the PMOI and was at the forefront of the organization’s awareness-raising campaigns against Khomeini’s reactionary forces.

Among her first responsibilities was her active participation and extensive efforts in launching and establishing the first Association of Muslim Women in the Khazaneh district of Tehran. She was also responsible for distributing Mojahed, the PMOI’s newspaper. In August–September 1980, while selling the publication, she was arrested and imprisoned by the regime’s repressive Committee, but was released after three days following protests by women supporters.

Following June 20, 1981, and the beginning of the revolutionary resistance, Noushin Namvar assumed various combat duties at the PMOI’s operational bases.

In June 1982, she was dispatched to the border region. In 1987, with the formation of the National Liberation Army of Iran, she joined the NLA and held support responsibilities in various operations.

Noushin Namvar distinguished herself with extraordinary merit, courage, patience, and endurance throughout the 14-year period of resistance at Camp Ashraf and Camp Liberty in Iraq, including during the clashes of July 28 and 29, 2009, the 72-day hunger strike, the April 8, 2011, attack against Camp Ashraf, and the series of missile attacks on Camp Liberty.

Her battle with illness, which lasted more than a year, was another manifestation of her patience, perseverance, and fighting spirit.

Noushin Namvar’s five decades of uninterrupted struggle is among the highest manifestations of the selflessness of the PMOI’s revolutionary women in the struggle against the mullahs’ inhuman and misogynistic regime. Women like Noushin are the guiding beacon and shining light of freedom in the darkness of the mullahs.

The path, tradition, and proud course that Noushin followed in the liberation struggle will continue in the uprisings and battles of rebellious girls and women who are pioneers of freedom, particularly in Tehran and the Khazaneh district where she was active, until the day of victory against the tyranny of the mullahs’ regime.
