As the clerical regime in Tehran exploits the fog of foreign conflict to wage a hidden war against its own people, a nationwide campaign of courage is pushing back. On June 24, PMOI Resistance Units launched a coordinated campaign of defiance in cities across Iran, making it clear that the principal battle for the nation’s future is being fought on its own streets.
In a powerful display of organizational strength, these activists are risking their lives to expose the regime’s brutality and amplify the Iranian people’s unyielding demand for a democratic revolution that will, as one placard in Tehran declared, “put an end to religious tyranny.”

The unified demand: Free the political prisoners
The central and most urgent focus of the Resistance Units’ recent activities has been the plight of political prisoners, who face imminent danger at the hands of the state. A unified message appeared on placards in major population centers including Tehran, Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, Gorgan, and Arak. The slogans carry a clear, non-negotiable demand: “Open the gates of Evin Prison, free political prisoners.” This was reinforced by a direct challenge to the regime’s flimsy justifications for endangering inmates, seen on placards in Tehran and Najaf Abad which stated, “When the regime cannot ensure and guarantee the security of prisoners, it must release them, even temporarily.”
This nationwide activism is a direct and necessary response to the regime’s sinister strategy of using the war with Israel as a cover to eliminate its opponents. The regime’s murderous intent was proven on June 16, when its anti-riot Special Units opened fire on terrified inmates at Kermanshah’s Dizel-Abad prison who were protesting for their safety, killing at least 10 and wounding over 30. Now, following a strike near Tehran’s Evin Prison, authorities are forcibly transferring political prisoners to unknown locations, a chilling repeat of the prelude to the 1988 massacre, where PMOI supporters were moved under the guise of “protection” before being systematically executed.

Rejecting all dictatorships for the “Third Option”
The Resistance Units are not just protesting injustice; they are articulating a clear vision for Iran’s future—one that rejects both the current theocracy and the past monarchy. In cities like Mashhad and Sari, placards boldly declared, “Down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs” and “No to the crown, no to the turban, the mullahs’ time is over.” This grassroots movement on the ground champions the path laid out by the Iranian Resistance, as a placard in Mahabad proclaimed: “Iran’s solution is neither in appeasement nor in war, but in the Third Option,” which relies solely on the Iranian people and their organized Resistance to bring about a democratic, secular republic.
The regime’s escalating brutality is a sign of profound weakness and fear of its own people. The coordinated and widespread activities of the PMOI Resistance Units prove that a viable, popular, and democratic alternative is not only possible but is actively fighting for control of Iran’s destiny. The organized Resistance and the Resistance Units are living proof that the Iranian people have everything they need to bring democratic change to Iran.
