Iran’s regime officials increasingly concerned as global isolation grows

Analysis by PMOI/MEK

Jan. 15, 2019 – Concerned reactions from Iranian regime officials and state-run outlets from across the board continue as the international community gears for significant measures focusing on the regime.

In response to reports of Warsaw planning to host a major international conference on February 13-14 specifically focusing on the Iranian regime, the state-run ILNA news agency said has cancelled a Polish film festival planned for one week.

Other reactions included the Iranian regime’s growing concern over the opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and their role in regards to developments inside the country and expanding a global front against the regime.

“The President’s chief of staff voiced strong criticism against various European countries for accusing Tehran of supporting terrorism. If Europe is honest, they should stop supporting the [PMOI/MEK],” said Mahmoud Vaezi, according to the state-run Jomhouri Islami daily.

Arman, another state-run newspaper, ran the following on its front page on January 13 citing a senior Iranian regime security official. “If the [PMOI/MEK] participate in the upcoming Warsaw conference, it will mainly result in tainting the conference’s image and message.”

Mehdi Mohammadi, a political analyst close to Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and a former member of Tehran’s nuclear negotiating team, also voiced similar concerns.

“In the next two or three months, links between the Arab NATO project, the deal of the century, unrest across Iran, the so-called ‘regional JCPOA’ plot and the upcoming Majlis (parliament) elections will become very clear,” he said, summarizing numerous flashpoints awaiting the mullahs in the next few months.

Former Iranian regime diplomat Ali Khorram provided more insight into the regime’s dilemmas.

“We must not kid around with the Poland conference,” he said. This diplomat has reached a point that he is suggesting to senior regime officials to step back from their policies.

“Unfortunately, not only are we not taking any action to separate these [different crises], in fact, we are taking measures for these issues to become further intertwined. When a country is under such circumstances, they must forgo some demands and break this chain,” he suggested.

Abdulreza Faraji-rad, the Iranian regime’s former ambassador to Norway and Hungary, referred to other crises the mullahs are engulfed with.

“Due to its differences with Europe, the U.S. seeks to transform the Iran dossier into an international matter by taking advantage of the differences they have with Europe… Poland has been chosen to host an anti-Iran [regime] conference to further aggravate the rifts in the European Union. Considering these divides, the ‘special purpose vehicle’ that Europe had promised to launch will never take form,” he added.

On January 12, Iranian regime state-TV aired remarks expressed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on this matter.

“The Foreign Minister described the U.S.’ efforts to hold a conference against Iran as a disappointing anti-Iranian circus.”

A few hours later, state TV sought to whitewash the “disappointing circus” remarks made by the regime’s top diplomat.

“Zarif has said after Iran saved Polish lives during World War II, this country will be shouldering the responsibility of hosting a ridiculous anti-Iranian circus.”

At the end of the day, the Iranian regime is growing ever more concerned over the prospects of escalating regional and international isolation, especially with protests continuing to escalate across the country with each passing day.
