Iran, Dec. 22, 2018 – Numerous cities across the country are witnessing truck drivers launch a new wave of nationwide strikes on Saturday, marking the fifth such movement. According to previously made arrangements, truckers will be on strike until December 31.
Videos of truckers on strike have arrived from Kurdistan, Saveh, and Chabahar.

Back in September, truck drivers in 112 cities across Iran launched a nationwide and coordinated strike after similar measures previously. This protest was in response to previous calls for such pre-planned measures.
Isfahan
According to eyewitness reports, most of the loading stations are empty in numerous cities and the truck drivers have not shown up for new deliveries. The Amir Kabir and Shapur Jadid terminals in Isfahan, similar sites in Bandar Abbas, Khomeini Shahr and Zanjan are among these locations that are reporting strikes and are completely closed down.
Khorramshahr
Truckers in various cities including Ardakan, Hamedan, Arak, Nahavand, Saveh, Shahrud, Neka, Borujerd, Kermanshah, Bardsir, Sirjan, Shahr-e Babak, Sanandaj, Kerman, Qom, Qazvin, Shiraz, Marvdasht, Abadeh, Kazerun, Zahedan, Chabahar, Kashmar, Taybad, Sabzevar, Neyshabur, Mashhad, Garmeh, Nehbandan, Lordegan, Shahr-e Kord, Tehran, Bushehr, Ilam, Semirom, Shahreza, Isfahan, Najaf Abad, Shahin Shahr, Zarrin Shahr, Mobarakeh, Ardabil, Urmia, Tabriz and many more are currently on strike. Signs indicate other cities will join the strike in the upcoming days.
Taybad
Drivers are protesting low paychecks, high prices for spare parts and not receiving any responses to their demands. This is a new round of strikes after the August episode.
Bushehr
In cities such as Sabzevar, Malayer & Nahavand, angry drivers are seen standing on the road and preventing any driver to leave with loads in their trucks.
Here is a look at the August episode of truck drivers launching strikes that has the potential of having a crippling effect over the mullahs’ control on the economy.
On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, truck drivers in Mashhad and Shapur, Isfahan, went on strike in protest to high prices, low income, lack of access to spare parts, and the government’s inefficiency in addressing their demands.
Videos obtained from both cities show truckers lining up their vehicles along the streets and refusing to load or move cargo. The Shapur Jadid terminal is lined with a large number of trucks parked in protest. “Their protest is to low wages and the high prices of spare parts for their vehicles,” says a local reporter.
In the Ahvaz road, truck drivers have gathered with their vehicles and composed a procession of empty cars in protest to the government’s unresponsiveness to their demands. “The drivers have gathered here in the Ahvaz road because they’re living in misery and unemployment,” says a local reporter.
The recent months have seen several extended strikes by the truck drivers of Iran in different cities. The Iranian regime’s corruption and mismanagement of the economy has had its toll and is affecting the lives of Iranians of all walks of life.
As with other protests, Iranian authorities have failed to respond to the needs of the striking truck drivers, but their attempts to intimidate them and force them to return to work have not been effective either.
