Various cities across Iran witness new protests

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, May 31, 2020—Protest rallies are escalating across Iran as people from all walks of life are demanding their rights.

Villagers near the city of Jofair in Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, rallied on Saturday, May 30, and blocked a road, protesting severe water shortages. There are numerous oil and gas companies stationed in nearby areas, yet the locals are forced to live in poor conditions. Residents of these villages say various officials have pledged to resolve this issue many times only to leave and never take any measures. Locals have threatened to completely shut down the oil and gas companies, and the land is estimated to have around 2 billion barrels of oil and many layers of natural gas, able to provide around 6.5 million cubic feet each day.

A group of employees of the Khuzestan Province Village Telecommunications Company held a rally on Saturday outside the provincial department office calling for attention to their employment status and poor living conditions.

In Urmia, northwest Iran, a group of landowners held a rally on Saturday demanding authorization for construction projects on their lands. These landowners have been waiting for 20 years for such authorization to add their lands to the city areas that are expanding.

Also, on Saturday, a group of livestock owners rallied outside the governor’s office in the city of Naqadeh in Kurdistan province, protesting orders by local officials limiting the lands they can use to feed their livestock.

In Isfahan, truck drivers held a rally on Friday, May 29, protesting being laid off for the past four months and left in a limbo status. “We haven’t been able to cross the border for the past four months. If we don’t work, we’ll die of hunger,” one driver said. “More than 200 oil tankers are waiting at the border. Trucks from Isfahan province have been stopped at the customs in Sistan & Baluchistan province for four months now.”

In other reports, agents of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in the city of Shushtar of Khuzestan province raided various areas at 6 am Saturday morning and arrested a number of youths. Reports indicate more than 30 individuals were arrested and some were under the age of 18. Eight of those arrested have been identified:
