Iran, April 27, 2021—Iran is in turmoil. Fifteen months after Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei used the Covid-19 pandemic as a shield against social protests, calling it an "opportunity" and a "blessing," this "opportunity" is gradually coming to an end and every passing day, the hatred of Iran's 80-million population toward the regime becomes more evident.
On Saturday, April 24, more than 3,000 farmers in Isfahan province held a rallied with more than 700 cars and tractors, protesting the regime denying them their rights to irrigation water from the Zayandeh Rud river through its destructive policies.
The regime, which has experienced large protests by deprived farmers in recent years, sent Isfahan’s Attorney General Ali Isfahani to claim: "The demands of this group have been subjected to the abuse of dissidents, and infiltrators have sought to direct the protests in order to achieve their political and subversive goals."
Earlier, the regime's so-called Student Basij organization in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari and Isfahan provinces had begged the farmers in a statement on April 23: "We ask you not to allow the counter-revolutionary media and the PMOI and the ill-wishers of the establishment to take advantage of these disagreements."
But these warnings and threats did not prevent the farmers, who are fed up with the regime’s inaction toward their demands and needs, to assemble their kilometers-long procession toward Zayandeh Rud on Saturday.
On the same day, the looted customers of Azvico, a state-backed car manufacturer, gathered in Tehran, protesting not having received the vehicles they had pre-purchased four years earlier. The protesters, who have been gathering regularly in the past years, bravely resisted security forces that had been dispatched to disperse them.
Also on Saturday, swindled investors on the stock market took to the streets in different cities including Tehran, Mashhad, Kermanshah and Zanjan, chanting slogans against Khamenei and regime president Hassan Rouhani, and making it clear that they no trust and hope in any official, faction, or institution in the regime. " We will not vote anymore. We’ve heard too many lies," the protesters chanted.
The state-run Arman daily observed on April 24: “Along with other problems, the establishment is faced with the growing anger of the people.” The growing scope of these protests in different parts of Iran and across different segments of the society hint at a major event soon that can logically lead to another nationwide uprising.
In this regard, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), tweeted:
“Chants such as ‘the government betrays; (Khamenei) supports,’ ‘having heard so many lies, we will not vote again,’ and ‘we won’t relent until we gain our rights’ indicate the Iranian people’s strong will to overthrow the clerical regime and establish democracy and justice.”
