People across Iran celebrate MEK’s 56th founding anniversary

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, September 10, 2021—Video messages were sent out from various cities checkered across Iran congratulating the 56th founding anniversary of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the principal opposition movement to the mullahs’ dictatorship. These messages were from the MEK’s internal network known as the Resistance Units, which has grown significantly in recent years. The MEK’s Resistance Units are groups of MEK supporters across the country.

Resistance Units members, mostly from Iran’s younger generation, pledge to continue to support the MEK and be ready to overthrow the mullahs’ regime.

“We celebrate the 56th MEK founding anniversary. We Resistance Units members are ready for the uprising to overthrow the regime,” many said in their messages.

The Resistance Units also praised the MEK’s 56 year-struggle against two dictatorships of the Shah and the Ayatollahs, and defined the movement as a symbol of perseverance for freedom.

Resistance Units members also condemned the regime’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and newly “elected” president Ebrahim Raisikv, who is known as the “butcher” of the MEK for his role in massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in the summer of 1988.

“My country Iran is in the hands of the Iranian regime, but I congratulate the MEK for 56 years of perseverance for freedom. Down with Khamenei! Down with Raisi! Hail to Rajavi!” said a young man from Qazvin, northwest Iran.

These brave young men and women take a high risk in sending messages supporting the MEK, since any support for the organization is punishable with heavy prison sentences and even execution. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the Iranian regime continues to arrest family members and supporters of the MEK, along with former political prisoners.

Saman Iranshahi, 34, from Bandar Abbas, Seyed Ali Seyed Aghabzargi, 32, from Tehran, Aqil Rahnama, 60, a political prisoner for 12 years during the 1980s and 1990s, and his wife, Narges Shirbacheh, Simrokh Bozorg-Zia”Bary, Ebrahim Hozouri, 62, a political prisoner for three years in the 1980s who suffers from a severe case of Parkinson’s disease, Ahmad Behnami, 58, a political prisoner for two years in the 1980s, and his wife Ozra Taheri, Mahin Akbari, a political prisoner in the 1980s, and Zahra Haghgoo, whose brother and sister are with the MEK in Ashraf-3 in Albania, are all among the MEK supporters arrested recently.

Despite the atmosphere of fear and repression the mullahs have created, political prisoners of various prisons across the country sent written messages congratulating the MEK’s founding anniversary.

Political prisoners of Tehran’s notorious prison Evin prison, Gohardasht and Central prison in the city of Karaj, Sheiban prison in Ahvaz, prisons in Khorramabad, Tabriz, Khoy, Qom, Dastgerd of Isfahan, Mashhad, and Lakan of Rasht have all sent written support messages for the MEK despite risks of facing torture.

“The MEK is the result of more than half a century of the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom, a glorious symbol of the nation’s resistance, and the hope embodied in our future history,” the prisoners said in their message.

Also, families of MEK martyrs in the cities of Tehran, Karaj, Qom, Semnan, Qazvin, Kerman, Shiraz, Isfahan, Rasht, Khorramabad, Urmia, Ahvaz, Kermanshah, and Fuman sent similar supporting messages to congratulate the MEK.

“We will pay the highest price possible to free our dear country,” the families wrote.
