Iran, May 2, 2019 – Following a nationwide teachers’ call to march on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on Thursday, teachers in dozens of cities in Iran including; Tehan, Torbat-e Haidariah, Sanandaj, Urmia, Yazd, Hamedan, Divandareh, Malard, Tabriz, Qazvin, javanrood, Ardebil, Kermanshah, Homayounshahr, Sari, Khorrmabad, Marivan, Mahabad, Karaj, Mashhad and a number of other cities took to the streets to protest and formed gatherings in front of the local offices of education in their cities.

In Tehran, marking the Teachers’ Day, teachers and education workers gathered in front of the ministry of education in the capital. They were carrying handwritten placards reading:

Your pain is our pain, people must rise up and join us

Free education is the right of every child
We demand salary and wages above the poverty line for teachers and pensioners.
