Iran, October 21, 2020—The internal network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), known as the Resistance Units organized vast activities checkered across the country celebrating the anniversary of the election of Maryam Rajavi as the Iranian Resistance president-elect.

The activities of the Resistance Units was organized in cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad, Karaj, Sari, Bandar Abbas, Behbahan, Khorramshahr, Hamadan, Amol, Kerman, Eslamshahr, Masjed Soleyman, Babol, Zahedan, Saveh, Kermanshah, Rasht, Lahijan, Esfarāyen, Shahriar, Arak, Urmia, Jiroft, and Khuzestan.

On October 22, 1993, during its plenary session, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition whose members include several Iranian opposition organizations and prominent personalities, elected Maryam Rajavi as the President-elect for the period of transitioning power to the Iranian people.

In recent years, she has led a global movement comprised of some of the most celebrated political and social personalities, including former U.S. government officials and secretaries in the political and military arenas, as well as political personalities and parliamentarians from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. This international movement has attained significant victories in support of regime change and the establishment of freedom and democracy in Iran through its support and recognition of the Iranian Resistance and the organized opposition.

The activities of Resistance Units are frustrating regime officials, who have gone to great lengths through propaganda and demonization to silence the voice of the Iranian Resistance to prevent Iranian people from joining the movement for democratic change in Iran.

Also in recent days, in tandem with the activities of the Resistance Units, the rebellious and defiant youth of Iran have targeted the regime’s suppressive centers, including six Basij bases in Isfahan (Buin), Mashhad, Andimeshk, and Gonabad. The Basij are the most hated suppressive paramilitary force inside Iran and a subsidiary of the terrorist-designated Revolutionary Guard (IRGC). Its main role is to preserve the mullahs’ rule through the suppression of protests and demonstrations, such as the nationwide November 2019 uprising.

Despite a highly intensified security atmosphere, these acts show the outrage of the society toward the regime’s recent crackdown measures by parading people in the streets, humiliating and torturing them psychologically in the open to intimidate and suppress the general population.
