“Many of these deaths were preventable. Most of the concerns are about hospital beds,” said Deputy Health Minister Ghasem Jan Babaie on Friday. “If the number of Covid-19 patients increases, our hospitals will not be able to address this issue and other patients, such as cancer, heart and brain stroke patients will suffer,” he added, according to the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“There is a possibility of the daily death toll increasing to 600 to 700,” said Minoo Mohraz, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “When the number of patients, and especially those in dire conditions begin to increase, we should anticipate a rise in the death toll, too,” she added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Javan Daily, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), quoted Alireza Zali, the head of the Covid-19 Task Force in Tehran as saying, “More than 20,000 nurses in the country have contracted Covid-19. Six thousand doctors and nurses in Tehran contracted the virus.” Zali stressed that until now, 300 medical staff have died of coronavirus and said, “Our workforce is tiring, and we need new staff to counter the Covid-19 outbreak.”

The dean of Tabriz Medical Sciences University declared that there are 1,050 hospitalized coronavirus patients in Eastern Azerbaijan province, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency. “There are 230 patients in ICU, 120 of which are under ventilator support. In the inspections we had today, the sectors of Ahar and Haris were filled with Covid-19 patients. There are no white or yellow regions in the province. All counties are red,” the dean added.

The dean of Qom Medical Sciences University reported 126 new hospitalized cases in the past 24 hours, according to Mehr News Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). “There are 744 people with coronavirus symptoms hospitalized in Qom’s medical centers, and 132 of them are in critical conditions,” the dean added. “In the past 24 hours, 13 patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 lost their lives.”

The health deputy of Ilam Medical Sciences University said on Friday, “With the unprecedented increase of hospitalized cases, we’ve had our worst Covid-19 day in this province since the beginning of the outbreak.” The deputy, who was quoted by the official IRNA news agency, added, “On October 1, we had 180 new hospitalized cases, which is unprecedented.”

In Khuzestan province, the dean of Jondishapur Medical Sciences University said, “Eleven counties in the province, including Ahvaz, Omidiyeh, Aghajari, Behbehan, Abadan, Shushtar, Baghmalak, Khorramshahr, Izeh, Ramhormoz and Karun are in red (very dangerous) conditions and the counties of Masjed Soleiman, Dezful, Shadegan, and Ramshir are in orange (dangerous) conditions. The situation of coronavirus death cases is very alarming and in the past few days, we’ve witnessed the passing of young and mid-age people.” (Source: ISNA, October 1)

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), expressed her sympathy for the victims of the coronavirus outbreak, from Tehran to Isfahan and Khuzestan and Qom and Lorestan and Azerbaijan and all corners of Iran, and reiterated that the key reason for the unbridled spread of the virus is the criminal policies of the mullahs’ regime ruling the country.

“The detestable clerical regime leaders, Ali Khamenei and Hassan Rouhani, and the criminal mullahs and Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are responsible for making so many of the people of Iran mournful,” Madam Rajavi added.
