Three days after a devastating 12-day conflict and a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei finally emerged from his reported hiding place with a video message. His prerecorded video address was not a triumphant declaration but of a desperate attempt to spin a catastrophic military and political setback into a fictitious victory.
With over 600 Iranians killed and the regime’s nuclear infrastructure in ruins, Khamenei’s ridiculous narratives and hollow congratulations were a transparent effort to save face before a domestic and international audience that knows the truth.
The myth of a ‘crushed’ enemy
In his address, Khamenei boldly claimed that the “Zionist regime… was almost destroyed and crushed” by the might of his regime. This assertion stands in stark contrast to the grim reality on the ground. The conflict saw Iran’s most critical strategic assets targeted, with massive U.S. bombing attacks striking its main nuclear facility at Fordow with bunker-buster bombs. While Khamenei boasted of victory, international observers confirmed the immense damage. The head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog, IAEA Director Rafael Grossi, stated that the damage to Iran’s nuclear facilities “is very, very, very considerable.” Even the regime’s own Foreign Ministry spokesperson was forced to concede, “our nuclear installations have been badly damaged, that’s for sure.”
The ‘harsh slap’ that was a coordinated stunt
The centerpiece of Khamenei’s propaganda was the claim that Iran “delivered a slap to America’s face” with a missile attack on the Al Udeid air base in Qatar. He portrayed this as a significant retaliatory blow, proof that Iran “has access to important U.S. centers in the region and can act against them whenever it deems necessary.” However, this narrative collapsed when U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that the attack was a pre-arranged stunt. Tehran had provided advance warning of the strike, allowing the U.S. to evacuate the base completely to ensure there were no casualties. What Khamenei presented as a show of strength was, in fact, a carefully coordinated piece of theater designed to give the illusion of retaliation without any real consequence.
Appearing tired and speaking in a hoarse voice, Khamenei projected an image of a leader under immense strain. His defiant rhetoric was a thin veil for the regime’s profound weakness.
The real battle is between the Iranian people and the regime
While Khamenei spins rhetoric and claims to have crushed Israel and delivered a “harsh slap” to America, as far as the Iranian people and the freedom-loving rebels are concerned, the main concern of the Iranian people remains the same: Overthrowing the regime and establishing a democratic republic. Khamenei’s hollow words cannot silence this call.
The ceasefire, welcomed by the Iranian Resistance, has ended the foreign war, but in doing so, it has clarified the true conflict facing Iran. As Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, stated, the end of the war is “a step forward for the third option: neither war nor appeasement. Let the people of Iran themselves, in the battle of destiny, bring down Khamenei and the dictatorship.” The regime’s warmongering and propaganda cannot mask its illegitimacy at home. The real struggle is not on foreign shores but in the streets of Iran, where the people yearn for freedom.
