Khamenei reveals his terror of growing unrests

In a meeting with the head and senior officials of the judiciary, regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, expressed his utter fear of the growing unrest in the Iranian society and called for an all-out crackdown on social media and protests.

Khamenei’s latest speech comes at a time when the regime is struggling to contain a growing wave of protests across the country. People from all walks of life are coming to the streets every day to protest economic woes, government corruption, arrest of activists, and suppression of freedoms.

At the same time, the Iranian Resistance has taken great strides inside the country. The Resistance Units, a network of activists affiliated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), has been carrying out numerous campaigns across the country to prevent the regime’s apparatus of suppression from stifling the voices of dissent and defiance.

In such an atmosphere, Khamenei compared today’s conditions with the early 1980s, when the MEK dealt severe blows to the regime inside the country. At the time, the regime resorted to a brutal wave of repression, arresting, torturing, and executing thousands of dissidents, mostly MEK members and supporters. The carnage culminated in the summer of 1988 when the regime executed more than 30,000 political prisoners in the span of a few months. Most of the victims were members and supporters of the MEK.

Khamenei desperately tried to give hope to his followers that his regime is still strong and standing by saying, “Which government and country do you know of that does not collapse due to such bitter, dire events?” Khamenei then added, “The enemy cannot understand that in this world, apart from political calculations, there are other calculations as well. These are the divine traditions.”

While Khamenei invoked divine intervention to save his regime, he could not contain his fear of the current conditions in Iran.

“In the year 1981, the Iranian nation was able to frustrate the enemy by sticking to one of the divine traditions, namely jihad and resistance,” Khamenei said. “Today, the same rule and law is in force, and God in the year 2022 is the same God He was in 1981. We must apply ourselves to be an example of the divine traditions so that the outcome will be progress and victory.”

Basically, this translates to Khamenei calling on the judiciary apparatus to resort to the same reign of terror that the regime applied in the 1980s to suppress the growing voice of dissent in Iran. It was all done in the name of God.

At the same time, Khamenei revealed his fear of the role that social media and online services are playing in helping protesters organize and spread the news of uprisings across the country and abroad.

“Psychological security is one of the rights of the people. What do I mean by psychological security? It means that every day, a rumor, a lie, a panic-causing word is instilled in the minds of the people. Until yesterday, it was only the newspapers that were doing this. Now, cyberspace has been added. Every once in a while, every few days, and sometimes even every few hours, a rumor, a lie, something is published on social media by a known or an unknown person. They cause worry among the people. They disturb people’s minds. They spread a lie and destroy psychological security. The Judiciary Branch must prevent the minds of the people from becoming worried and disturbed due to rumors, false claims, and the frightening statements of specific or unknown individuals in both the media and on the internet,” Khamenei said, admitting to his regime’s utter defeat in preventing the news of protests and regime corruption from spreading on the internet.

Khamenei has been calling for the full censorship of internet access for several years. But his regime has been unable to implement it in full due to the complexities that it causes for the regime’s economy and the backlash it will have on society.

While Khamenei continues to create false impressions of hope and power and divine intervention to save his regime, the people in the streets of Iran are expressing their true sentiments by chanting “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to Raisi.”
