On May 9, PMOI/MEK Resistance Units in the southeastern city of Zahedan resumed their anti-regime activities, boldly condemning the Iranian regime’s new wave of executions.
Operating against a backdrop of severe repression, these courageous activists reiterated their unwavering commitment to overthrowing the ruling religious dictatorship and establishing a democratic republic.
By taking to the streets and holding placards in public locations, the Resistance Units delivered a clear message: the regime’s attempts to rule through terror have backfired, and the spirit of resistance cannot be extinguished. “The regime’s criminal executions will not save it; they only strengthen the resolve of Iran’s youth to overthrow it,” read one of the messages displayed by the rebellious youth.
Rejecting all forms of dictatorship
The activists in Zahedan explicitly rejected all forms of tyranny, drawing a firm line against both the historical monarchy and the current religious dictatorship. Demonstrators held signs declaring, “No to monarchy, no to the supreme leader. Yes to freedom and equality,” and “From Zahedan to Tehran, down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the supreme leader.”

The rebellious youth emphasized that the sacrifices of recent martyrs have dismantled the regime’s calculations, along with the illusions of the remnants of the Shah and other fabricated alternatives against the Iranian Resistance. “These acts of bloodshed will not go unanswered,” the units warned, asserting that “the day is near when the people’s fury will erupt and the cruel judges, along with all those who ordered and carried out these crimes, will be brought to justice.”
Executions as a tool of a desperate regime
The Resistance Units correctly characterize the recent surge in hangings as a reflection of “the deadly impasse that the mullahs’ regime is trapped in.” In March and April, the regime has executed eight PMOI members. Additionally, the regime has executed at least a dozen young protesters, while another detained protester was killed under torture.
Fearing a nationwide uprising and the growing operations of the organized resistance, the mullahs’ regime is futilely trying to escape its inevitable overthrow through nonstop executions. However, as PMOI Resistance Units in Zahedan pointed out, the regime is “facing a generation that has embraced the path of Resistance and refuses to submit to the repression and tyranny of the dictatorial mullahs.”

A fragile regime terrified of its own people
The regime’s reliance on executions highlights its unprecedented vulnerability. Having faced a massive nationwide uprising this past January, the ruling establishment stands at the brink of overthrow and has never been as fragile and weak as it is today.
The regime, now led by Khamenei’s son, knows that its primary threat is not external war, but deep-seated popular outrage. Since the death of Khamenei, the authorities have kept their forces deployed in the streets out of sheer terror of a new revolt.
This fear is justified by the expanding capabilities of the Resistance Units, who carried out 630 operations against centers of the Revolutionary Guard and Basij to defend unarmed demonstrators during the January protests. Furthermore, on February 23, 2026, 250 PMOI fighters launched a daring attack on Khamenei’s headquarters and other highly guarded state centers, further striking fear into the regime.
The path forward to a democratic republic
As the activists in Zahedan declared, “The only answer to Iran’s crisis is the overthrow of the regime — a task that will be carried out by the Iranian people and the organized Resistance.”
To ensure a democratic transition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) announced the establishment of a provisional government on February 28, 2026. This provisional body is tasked with transferring sovereignty to the people by organizing free elections for a Constituent Assembly within a maximum of six months after the regime’s downfall, based on the Resistance’s Ten-Point Plan.
The mullahs’ regime possesses no capacity for reform or change, and lasting peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through the complete overthrow of this religious dictatorship and the establishment of a free, democratic republic.
