PMOI Resistance Units in Iran commemorate martyrs of April 8 massacre in Ashraf

On the 14th anniversary of the April 8, 2011, massacre at Camp Ashraf, Iranq, the Resistance Units affiliated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) launched widespread commemorative activities across numerous Iranian cities. The events honored 36 PMOI members who were martyred at the hands of Iranian regime proxies within the Iraqi government.

On that day, forces under Nouri al-Maliki—then Iraqi Prime Minister and a known subordinate of the Iranian regime—launched a brutal attack on the unarmed residents of Camp Ashraf. The residents resisted with bare hands, but 36 of them were murdered. The attack has gone down in history as one of the most heinous assaults against Iranian opposition forces outside Iran’s borders.

On Monday, April 7, Resistance Units in Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad, Isfahan, Fardis, Zahedan, Sari, Kermanshah, Anzali, Lahijan, Amol, Gorgan, and Bandar Abbas organized symbolic events to mark the occasion. These included prominently displaying photos of the martyrs of “Foroogh Ashraf” (Light of Ashraf, as the April 8 massacre is known as) in public places, along with banners and slogans renewing allegiance to the cause of freedom.

In Tehran, one banner read:

“We salute these heroes on the anniversary of their epic stand. The seeds you planted have now blossomed. Today, your roar is echoed in the voices of Resistance Units and uprising-makers across our captive homeland. We vow to follow your crimson path until the vile regime is overthrown. Death to Khamenei, hail to Rajavi.”

In Shiraz, alongside a series of martyrs’ portraits, another message stated:

“Let us remember them — with their smiles, and the oath for which they gave their lives. Though our hearts bleed, we march with passion toward their goal: a free Iran. Our promise to these blood-red tulips is to stand to the end. Glory to the epic of April 8, 2011.”

In Mashhad, beneath a banner of the fallen heroes, it was written:

“Glory to the April 8 epic in Ashraf, where the Mojahedin stood firm and were martyred by al-Maliki, the criminal servant of Khamenei. We stand firm. We neither forget nor forgive. Hail to Rajavi, death to Khamenei.”

In Lahijan, alongside the image of martyr Saba Haft-Baradaran, a quote read:

“We heard her final words: ‘We will stand to the end.’ Her voice settled in our hearts, and we vowed to be her echo. We pledged to never retreat until the overthrow of the theocratic regime. We stand until the end.”

In Kermanshah, Resistance Units posted:

“The streets burn with the blood of you and 120,000 red flowers. The fire of our oath to end oppression rages on. We declare: we are ready, alongside the Resistance Units, for a hundred battles.”

The powerful visuals and coordinated displays across cities served as a declaration that the legacy of Ashraf’s martyrs lives on. Their sacrifice continues to inspire new generations of freedom fighters.

The day concluded with a unified message echoed in all participating cities:

“Glory to the martyrs of Ashraf who heroically stood against the agents of the theocratic regime. Hail to Rajavi, victory to freedom.”
