In an open letter on the occasion of Nowruz, a group of MEK supporters in Evin prison wished a happy new year to all Iranians and congratulated the Iranian Resistance on the achievements and victories of the past year. Excerpts of the letter follow:
“How can we start the New Year in any way other than with pain as our compatriots are grieving and their tables are empty?
“We ended the year 1400 as the people were struggling with political, social, economic, and cultural problems and hundreds of thousands have died of coronavirus due to the regime’s criminal policies and many others are grieving losing their loved ones.
“The multitude economic problems are weighing down on the people, and the growth of poverty, inflation, unemployment, and corruption along with huge embezzlement of national wealth by regime-run mafias has caused the tables of most of our oppressed people to become emptier by the day while the few who are linked to the regime grow wealthier every day.
“The regime continued the oppression and imprisonment of freedom-lovers, hard-working people, the combatants of freedom, and Resistance Units. And the killing of political prisoners continued across the country, including Baktash Abtin, our friend and fellow inmate who died in Evin prison.
“But the year 1400 was also filled with achievements and success for the Iranian people and their resistance movement.
“The yearly gathering of the Iranian Resistance;… the trial of the criminal Hamid Noury in Stockholm;… the victory of the Iranian Resistance in the appeals court of the terrorist Assadollah Assadi and his cohorts; the continued condemnation of the regime’s human rights abuses thanks to the efforts of the MEK and its supporters;… the continued exposure of the regime’s terrorist activities, including its drone manufacturing facilities…; and the broadcasting of the picture and voice of the leader of the Iranian Resistance and the expansion of the activities of the Resistance Units across Iran…; as well as the growing resistance of MEK supporters in Iran’s prisons and hundreds and thousands of other great and small victories of the sole democratic alternative of the Iranian people.
“At the same time, the uprisings of the oppressed farmers of Isfahan, the brave people of Sistan and Baluchestan, and the continued protests of workers and teachers in many cities and villages, all are rays of hope indicating that the year 1401 will be the end of the evil of the mullahs’ regime and the coming of the spring of freedom.
“We are a group of political prisoners and supporters of the MEK in Evin Prison and we wish our people, the leadership of the Resistance, and all MEK members in Ashraf 3 and supporters across the world and Resistance Units a happy new year.”
In another letter, political prisoners in Greater Tehran Penitentiary wished a happy new year to the people of Iran and the members and supporters of MEK and wrote:
“Nowruz is a sign of change from winter to spring, a sign of the hard times going away along with all the pain.
“The coming of spring is a sign of change and the overthrow of the threadbare regime of the mullahs.
“While wishing a happy new year, we pledge to continue our resistance until the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime.”
