NHK, 13 March 2018-- US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says several steps will be necessary before the United States and North Korea agree on the details of their proposed summit.
His comments follow US President Donald Trump's acceptance of an invitation from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to meet by May. The invitation was conveyed by a South Korean envoy.
Speaking to reporters in Nigeria on Monday, Tillerson said that nothing had so far been agreed in relation to the location and scope of discussions. But he emphasized the importance of allowing the 2 parties involved to quietly work out the details of the meeting.
He added that the US was not yet in direct contact with Pyongyang, although it was still early stages and he expected progress shortly.
