“Fire-up” social protests during the “Fire Festival”

A quick look at social protests statistics between February 23rd and March 2nd 2018

Iran, March 10, 2018 – During the time span between February 23rd and March 2nd 2018 alone, more than 145 acts of protest have been registered by the resistance media. Needless to say, these statistics are based on information that escaped the Iranian regime’s censorship and oppression barriers. These protests include 68 counts carried out by workers in different areas of Iran, 13 counts by looted persons, 7 counts by retired government employees, 3 counts by teachers, 7 by students, 2 counts by prisoners, one hunger strike by a political prisoner and 44 counts by other social groups. These instances add up to an average of 20 acts of protest each day.

What has been the Iranian regime’s response? Brutal attacks on workers to disband their strikes.

Why have the “Haft Tappeh” sugar cane factory workers, in the South Western province of “Khuzestan”, started their strike again? Because government agents and factory managers appointed by the government, broke the workers strike two months ago, with a false promise to pay the workers’ salaries soon. But the workers are now saying that none of those promises have been met.
The workers carried banners that read: “We, the Haft Tappeh sugar cane factory workers, are hungry.” And “Our families need money.”
