MEK’s networks in Iran condemn execution of political prisoners

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 10, 2020—Iran, October 10, 2020—Marking the 2020 World Day Against the Death Penalty, the Iranian Resistance Units, the active internal network of the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), organized various activities checkered across Iran. This initiative is parallel to an ongoing campaign to break the crackdown imposed by the mullahs’ regime that uses executions as an instrument to maintain their rule.

Iranian Resistance Units, which were the driving force of Iran’s nationwide protests in 2018 and 2019, continue to expand their activities in the cities of Tehran, Shiraz, Rasht, Nain, Kermanshah, Kashan, Karaj, and Gorgan. They commemorated the 1,500 innocent protesters killed during the November 2019 nationwide uprising by holding up their images and taking to graffiti to write anti-regime slogans.

In response to the regime’s propaganda campaign with fake slogans organized by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), the MEK Resistance Units are further spreading the message of slogans chanted by the Iranian people during the nationwide protests, including: “Down with dictators, be it the Shah or the Supreme Leader,” and “Down with the principle of velayat-e faqih [absolute rule of the clergy in Iran].”

Simultaneously, the rebellious and defiant youths targeted four Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Basij bases and an intelligence office in Isfahan province, and the regime’s judiciary in Joghatai in Razavi Khorasan province.

Following the executions of Mostafa Salehi, an Iranian worker arrested during the January 2018 uprising, and Iranian wrestler champion Navid Afkari, many of the regime’s suppressive centers, regional courts, and Basij bases were targeted by the brave youths as an act of outrage in response to these executions.

Also, in different cities of Tehran and Isfahan provinces, such as Eslamshahr, Miandasht, and Mobarakeh, banners of Iranian regime figures, including the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, were torched by the defiant youths.

These acts show that the regime’s efforts to contain the explosive state of the society through suppression and executions have had a reverse effect. The rebellious youth continue to manifest their desire to overthrow the regime despite the environment of repression.
