Iran, August 22, 2021—Last week Iranians held Muharram ceremonies across the county to mourn the death of Hossein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. In recent years in Iran this has always been an occasion for the people to protests against the mullahs’ dictatorship by pointing out they are the real tyrants and oppressors.
On this occasion, in recent days many family members of the victims of regime violence during protests in 2009, 2018 and 2019 held pictures of their loved ones and chanted anti-regime slogans. While security forces beat many of them in various cities, the families installed images of these martyrs on the walls.
Simultaneously, the network of the Iranian opposition movement the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) organized a vast anti-regime campaign across the country.
Anti-regime slogans such as “Down with Khamenei and hail to Rajavi” were spread in various cities by the MEK’s internal network, known as the Iranian Resistance Units.
The Resistance Units installed posters and images of the Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi and took to graffiti with anti-regime slogans in cities such as Tehran, Shiraz, Tabriz, Dezful, Nishabur, Mashhad, Sari, Karaj, Yasuj, Ahvaz, Kerman, Qazvin, Urmia, Kashan, Qeshm Island, Minab, and Nishabur.
In Tehran, one of the banners of the Resistance Units read, “We reject both turban and crown [mullahs’ regime and Shah]. Your time is over.” This slogan reflects the Iranian people’s desire not to return to the era of the Shah dictatorship, despite various propaganda efforts by the regime’s intelligence service to mislead Iran protests.
Also, despite regime’s intensified repressive measures, in various places in Tehran, Shiraz and Mashhad, the Resistance Units installed images and posters of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) with the slogan, “A free Iran with Maryam Rajavi.”
The Resistance Units also installed images of the Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi in various cities. This is while any support for the MEK or Maryam Rajavi is punished with heavy prison sentences and execution. Last week the regime’s agents even destroyed the grave of mother of Hamid Khademi, one the MEK martyrs killed in 1982.
The Resistance Units also bravely spread slogans against the Iranian regime’s new president Ebrahim Raisi. Raisi is known as the “Butcher of 1988” for his prominent role in “Death Commissions” in 1988 who sent 30,000 political prisoners to the gallows.
The Resistance Units also pledged to continue the path of these brave martyrs who refused to take distance from their support for the MEK. In current circumstances of the Iranian society are the voice of defiant people who seek regime’s overthrowing to establish freedom and democracy.
