Albanian divers recover body of drowned PMOI member

Reported by PMOI/MEK

July 3, 2018 – On Monday, July 2, 2018, a team of Albanian divers recovered the body of Malik Shara’i, a member of the PMOI/MEK who had been relocated to Albania in 2016, after an extensive search that had lasted for more than two weeks. Shara’i’s body was found in Rutole Lake, in a 10-meter ditch where he had been stuck.

Shara’i had drowned in the lake on June 19, while he had tried to save one of his friends who had been stranded in the lake, tragically losing his own life in the effort. Efforts to save him at the time proved fruitless and a probe was launched to recover his body which came to an end on July 2.

Malik Shara’i, a hero by all standards, was born in Khorramshahr in 1970. He joined the PMOI/MEK in 1997 and served in the ranks of the National Liberation Army of Iran in Iraq. He was in camps Ashraf and Liberty during the years that followed the 2003 invasion of Iraq. In 2013, Malik was in Ashraf when the forces of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a close ally of the Iranian regime, raided the camp and murdered 52 of its residents in cold blood.

Malik’s life was marked with selflessness, honesty and sacrifice for the freedom of his compatriots. His deeds will never be forgotten.
