Regime’s crackdown on water protesters in Sabzevar sparks fiery retaliation across Iran

Following an attack by the Iranian regime’s security forces on the frustrated people of Sabzevar, who were protesting water shortages and were met with tear gas, Iran’s rebellious youth targeted several of the mullahs’ centers of suppression and plunder. They also set fire to images of regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei in various cities. With 15 fiery responses and attacks on foundations of corruption and plundering as well as suppression bases, the rebellious youth lit the guiding beacons of “fire” and rebellion for the youth and weary people.

These revolutionary operations, carried out in salute to the risen people of Sabzevar, , included:

  • Attacking the State Security Forces Command in Rudbar
  • Setting fire to a regime foundation for corruption and plundering in Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh
  • Attacking the Khomeini Relief Committee, a major parastatal foundation, in Astara with Molotov cocktails
  • Setting fire to IRGC Basij bases in Borujerd, Khash, Suran, and Saravan
  • Burning government banners with images of regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini, supreme leader Ali Khamenei, and former president Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran, Karaj, Urmia, Chalus, Khomein, Dorud, Ramian, and Aliabad-e Katul

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, starting at 7:15 PM, the people of Sabzevar gathered at the Governor’s Office Square on Abuzar Street to protest water and power outages. In this protest uprising, led by women, hardworking people, both old and young, took to the streets, chanting: “Water, electricity, life, are our undeniable rights.”

Vehicles of the suppressive State Security Forces took positions in front of the governor’s office to confront the people. The police force and plainclothes intelligence agents tried to disperse the crowd with threats and beatings, and the suppressive forces attacked the defenseless people by firing tear gas. However, the people did not retreat and, after the tear gas was fired, stood firm against Khamenei’s machine of suppression, chanting “Shame on you! Shame on you!” The angry people chanted:

  • Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, we are all together
  • Water, electricity, life, are our undeniable rights
  • We won’t leave until we get our rights
  • Our rights are only won on the streets
  • We have no electricity, no water, the governor is asleep
  • Our enemy is right here, they lie when they say it’s America

The water and power outages that have paralyzed people’s lives and businesses are not just a problem for the people of Sabzevar. The cries of protest from people in various parts of Tehran and in cities across the country, especially in the western and southern regions, are rising. On the evening of July 22, hours after the protest in Sabzevar, people in parts of Tehran and in Shiraz chanted “Death to the dictator” and “Death to Khamenei” to protest the frequent water and power cuts.

Despite the major water and electricity crisis and an unprecedented heatwave, the mullahs’ regime neither wants nor is able to find a solution for these crises and sees suppression and foreign crisis-mongering as the only way to control the situation and confront the uprising. On Monday, July 21, 2025, coinciding with the Sabzevar uprising, Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the terrorist Quds Force, quoted the head of the regime’s Plan and Budget Organization as writing: “In this situation, strengthening the defense foundation is the top priority for the entire system, and the government, the Majlis (parliament), and the judiciary are pursuing this same issue.”

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), saluted the leading women and the risen people of Sabzevar, saying: “Like so many of Iran’s resources, the country’s water supplies have not been spared from the plunder and corruption of the clerical regime and its brutal IRGC enforcers. Years of mismanagement and exploitation have pushed Tehran and much of the country to the brink of a devastating water crisis.

“Power and water outages during the scorching summer have created unbearable conditions for deprived communities and ruined the livelihoods of countless farmers. Even regime officials and state experts are warning of an even worse crisis in the coming months.

“The reckless exploitation of water resources by industries serving the IRGC, the overuse of underground water, and the construction of dams benefiting regime-affiliated and IRGC-owned complexes have pushed even Iran’s water-rich regions into crisis.

“The ruling clerics have truly devastated both the land and the people. The only path to salvation is a nationwide uprising for regime change — to establish democracy, justice, and the will of the people.”
