May 9, 2019 – U.S. Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan attended a U.S. Congress hearing on Wednesday emphasizing credible intelligence shows the regime in Iran or its proxy forces are planning aggressive measures against U.S. interests in the Middle East. Senior U.S. officials received this information on Friday afternoon, he added.

General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, also took part in this hearing adding the dispatching and stationing of the USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying warships, along with a number of B-52 strategic bombers, are being carried out to send a warning message to the Iranian regime. This is meant to leave no doubt about the United States’ readiness to react to any threat against our forces or our partners in the region, Dunford added.

Media outlets have reported on this development, adding these public remarks from two senior Pentagon officials are in line with how newly obtained intelligence about Iran’s activities resulted in the dispatching of the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Media outlets have been informed that this intelligence consists of signs indicating that the Iranian regime or its proxy forces were planning to carry out attacks against  U.S. forces in Iraq, Syria or at sea. U.S. officials are indicating that newly obtained information shows the Iranian regime was very likely involved in moving missiles with boats in the Persian Gulf.
