Iran coronavirus update: Over 465,300 deaths, state media questioning official Covid stats

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 27, 2021—Over 465,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, October 27. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 125,716 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 109,015 in Tehran, 38,070 in Razavi Khorasan, 31,675 in Isfahan, 28,520 in Khuzestan, 17,198 in West Azerbaijan, 17,005 in Fars, 16,168 in East Azerbaijan, 15,460 in Lorestan, 13,055 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 12,402 in Kerman, 7810 in Hormozgan, 7648 in Yazd, 5299 in Qazvin, and 3540 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Wednesday as 197 deaths and 10,644 new cases. Furthermore, 4127 patients are in ICUs and 1462 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“To this day the way the country’s officials are response to the sixth wave has been ‘denial,’ ‘simplicity’ and ‘a slight increase in new cases.’ However, if the true numbers of this illness were declassified and provided to the public in transparent fashion, and this being the policy of the Health Ministry and the National Covid-19 Task Force, we will be able to understand the depth of the sixth peak’s catastrophe… The coronavirus stats are not confirmed by independent sources and the medical society has time and again said that the true numbers are many times higher than the official numbers. Without a doubt there would be some hope to control this illness if the country was not eight month behind the global vaccination effort, and the opportunity to purchase credible vaccines from COVAX was not wasted,” reads an article published on Wednesday in the state-run Hamdeli daily.

“The number of new cases is increasing in the eastern parts of Iran. In provinces such as North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan, and Sistan & Baluchistan this trend is on the rise. Currently, the most dangerous development, or at least what is being mentioned, is the fact that each entity is attempting to restart its activities, and simultaneously, these re-openings are the most important source of concerns as we speak,” said the secretary of Iran’s Epidemiology Committee on Wednesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we registered 491 new coronavirus cases. This is a 256-case increase in comparison to yesterday. We currently have 817 patients hospitalized, of which 82 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Kurdistan Medical Sciences University.

“The number of people seeking initial medical care for Covid-19 symptoms have increased by 25 to 30 percent. During the past two weeks these stats were around 1300 per day. This has now increased to 1800 per day,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University.

Sistan & Baluchistan province faces the threat of a new rise in coronavirus numbers, registering 161 new cases on Wednesday, according to regime’s official IRIB news agency.

Based on reports issued by various Medical Sciences universities, in the provinces of Isfahan, Fars, and West Azerbaijan there are 1585, 1581, and 1194 patients hospitalized, respectively; of which 296, 197, and 264 are in ICUs, respectively. During the past 24 hour a total of 58 people have died in these provinces, according to these reports.
