Iran coronavirus update: Over 347,600 deaths, hospitals facing critical shortages

Iran, August 4, 2021—Over 347,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, August 4. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 92,194, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 81,356 in Tehran, 23,515 in Isfahan, 22,031 in Khuzestan, 21,105 in Razavi Khorasan, 13,548 in East Azerbaijan, 13,460 in Mazandaran, 12,623 in West Azerbaijan, 11,907 in Fars, 11,196 in Gilan, 10,148 in Alborz, 10,025 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 4170 in Ardabil, 8633 in Kerman, 8210 in Golestan, 7018 in Markazi (Central), 6443 in Kermanshah, 6057 in Yazd, 5945 in Hormozgan, 5712, in Kurdistan, 5485 in Semnan, 3949 in Bushehr, 3929 in Qazvin, 3680 in Zanjan, and 3216 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Wednesday as 409 deaths and 39,357 new cases (new pandemic record). Furthermore, 5959 patients are in ICUs (new pandemic record) and 4263 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“A shortage in serums is serious and in the past 48 hours this has become a major issue in our hospitals. Each day an average of 2000 coronavirus patients are hospitalized in Tehran,” said Alierza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday. “During the past four weeks there has not been a balance between the number of people released and those being hospitalized. Considering the fact that Tehran is the destination of much of our transactions, we need to adopt a different strategy to increase vaccination. Without control over Tehran, we will not be able to control the entire country,” he added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Hospitals in Alborz province have reached their maximum capacities and are being flooded. These facilities are not able to increase the number of patients that they can hospitalize,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Alborz Covid-19 Task Force.

“46 patients in Al Zahra Hospital are waiting for an ICU to become available. There is also a line of patients waiting for ordinary beds,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the state-run IMNA news agency.

 

 

“The spread of this virus has turned into a crisis. During the past week all beds of Seyed Al-Shohada Hospital have been filled and there is no capacity to accept new patients,” said the mayor of Aran & Bidgol on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

In West Azarbaijan province, the deputy dean of the medical sciences university said on Wednesday, “The number of covid cases and hospitalized patients is increasing at an accelerating pace. Out of 1,144 patients, 221 people are in ICU and 33 patients are under ventilator support.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)

In Ardebil province, the provincial governor said on Wednesday, “Currently, hospitals are out of capacity to accept covid patients, and ten times the number of hospitalized patients are people who are quarantined in their homes. In Razavi Khorasan province, the medical university of Mashhad declared on Wednesday, “Hospitals are filled with covid patients and the direct referral of patients to hospitals has caused problems in medical services. In Hamedan, the deputy dean of the medical sciences university said, “The number of cases is increasing as an accelerating pace and nearly all ICU beds are occupied, and the ordinary patients section is also being filled.” (Source: Fars News Agency)

In Fars province, the dean of the medical sciences university said, “51 percent of covid tests in the past day were positive and this is worrying.”

The deputy dean of the university said, “3,816 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, of which 326 are in ICU.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)

The head of the emergency department of Lar said, “With the start of the fifth peak, the record of hospitalized patients in the emergency department of Lar hospital was broken. In South Khorasan, the provincial coronavirus secretary said, “The number of positive cases has quadrupled in comparison to last month and the number of hospitalized patients has increased by a factor of 2.3, and in comparison to last week, there has been a 23 percent increase.” (Source: IRIB news agency)
