“Each host of the initial Wuhan virus was able to transfer it to an average of 1.2 people. However, this ratio for the UK strain is 2.3. Little by little new clusters of this virus will establish in Tehran and their combination will lead to a new wave,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “Furthermore, the mutated virus has a higher death rate and our studies in Tehran are indicating this,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“We have around 260 to 300 people being hospitalized each day in hospitals across [Tehran] province and 2,000 to 2,400 people with Covid-19 symptoms seeking medical care. The number of ICU patients have increased, and one case say those that are hospitalized are the dire cases,” said the deputy chair of Tehran’s Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “On the other hand, the number of patients under the age of 10 that are being hospitalized has reached 11 percent. Prior to this and in the previous months this was a lower percentage. As the mutated virus has spread across the country, the same phenomenon is witnessed in Tehran province. Those who have contracted this virus do not have a different hospital to receive special medical care in. However, it appears that maybe the increase in the number of patients under the age of ten who are contracting Covid-19 is due to the UK strain,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

In Khuzestan province the hospitals and ICU branches are full of Covid-19 patients. Some are under ventilators and barely breathing. These patients are those who were in stable conditions up to 24 to 48 hours ago.

“The numbers have climbed once again due to the mutated strain known as the UK virus. The contraction rate of this virus is ten times higher, with an eight to nine-fold increase in the number of patients being hospitalized and a five to seven-fold increase in the death rate in comparison to last week,” said the chair of the Khuzestan Health Center on Friday. “As a result, our previous methods are no longer effective against this strain. According to stats published by the Ahvaz Medical Sciences University 34 percent of Covid-19 victims arrive at the hospital are either dead or die in the emergency branch,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Each day 150 to 200 people are being tested in Mahshahr, of which 60 to 70 percent are positive,” said the caretaker mayor of this city in southwest Iran on Friday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.
