Iran coronavirus update: Over 499,000 deaths, omicron spreading fast across the country

Over 499,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Thursday afternoon local time, January 20. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 132,152, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 116,535 in Tehran, 40,190 in Razavi Khorasan, 34,590 in Isfahan, 30,115 in Khuzestan, 18,895 in Fars, 18,818 in West Azerbaijan, 14,538 in Alborz, 13,760 in Sistan 7 Baluchistan, 4805 in Zanjan, and 3789 in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Thursday as 20 deaths and 4658 new cases. Furthermore, 1247 patients are in ICUs and 345 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“The number of omicron cases in Iran is more than the figures announced. More than 2,000 people have contracted omicron, and there is a possibility that it is higher than this figure. The number of people seeking initial medical care in the past few days has quadrupled, and the number of those hospitalized has increased,” said regime Health Minister Bahram Einollahi on Thursday, according to the Daneshju news agency.

The novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has taken the lives of over 499,000 people throughout Iran, according to the Iranian opposition PMOI/MEK

“The number of new cases has increased significantly in comparison to two weeks ago. It is forecasted that stats will continue to escalate at this pace and soon the number of new cases will be in the five digits,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“In two weeks, omicron will engulf all of Iran and will become the main variant. It is possible we may face a new peak of this illness in late February and March, and even the death toll could increase,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Thursday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Omicron patients are increasing in numbers at a fast pace and becoming the main variant. If the omicron stats seem low as we speak, it is because we don’t have that many test kits. Most of the people seeking initial care are asking for medical treatment. The number of coronavirus tests across the country needs to be far higher. However, we don’t have adequate supplies,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Thursday, according to the semi-official ILNA news agency.

“1125 people have contracted coronavirus and 1051 are in house quarantine. During the past week the number of people hospitalized has increased by 11 percent and the number of people seeking initial medical care by 70 percent,” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Thursday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours, 118 patients have been hospitalized for coronavirus. We currently have 311 patients hospitalized, of which 82 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Thursday by the Mashhad Medical Sciences University regarding Razavi Khorasan province.
