Iran coronavirus update: Over 507,400 deaths, daily average of one million omicron cases

Over 507,400 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, February 16. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 134,238, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 118,505 in Tehran, 40,715 in Razavi Khorasan, 35,240 in Isfahan, 30,585 in Khuzestan, 19,360 in Fars, 19,098 in West Azerbaijan, 17,538 in East Azerbaijan, 17,535 in Gilan, 16,680 in Lorestan, 14,748 in Alborz, 13,980 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 13,752 in Kerman, 11,005 in Golestan, 9494 in Kermanshah, 9378 in Hamedan, 6685 in Semnan, 6485 in Ardabil, 6034 in Qazvin, 5684 in Bushehr, 4905 in Zanjan, and 4531 in South Khorasan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Wednesday as 16,310 new cases and 185 deaths. Furthermore, 3607 patients are in ICUs and 2275 of the new cases have been hospitalized.

“This is wrong for Education Ministry officials to insist on having students attend schools in person for their classes and exams; we have been hit once from such a decision and we will be hit again; however, I don’t know why the relevant officials don’t change their positions in this regard,” said a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Wednesday, according to the state-run Entekhab daily.

“The official stats show a 200 percent increase in the number of new cases; however, the reported numbers of new cases and those being hospitalized are tens of times higher. The daily and weekly increase in the number of coronavirus patients is unbelievable and the number of new cases is mindboggling. The official stats are merely a tip of the iceberg of this catastrophe and in Iran, there is a daily average of at least one million new omicron cases,” according to a piece published on Wednesday by the official Hamdeli newspaper.

“Last week the number of people hospitalized and the death toll from omicron increased by 100 percent. We have yet to reach the halfway mark of this peak. In the next two weeks our hospitals will be reporting critical conditions,” said the caretaker head of Tehran’s Crisis Management Department on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“We are facing a serious warning”

It has been more than two weeks that the numbers of Covid deaths have been constantly on the rise. If this trend continues, we will be witness to more such deaths,” said the director of Tehran’s famous Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery on Wednesday, according to the state-run Entekhab newspaper.

“To this day 800 taxi drivers in the capital have lost their lives to Covid-19,” said the director of Tehran’s City Taxi Drivers Organization on Wednesday, according to the state-run IMNA news agency.

“Markazi (Central) province has ranked second in the country in the past week when it comes to coronavirus deaths. Many of those dying in hospitals are immediately transferred to the emergency section and/or lose their lives in the first 24 hours,” said the deputy dean of Markazi Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The numbers of patients hospitalized and those receiving initial medical care remain on the rise and most of our areas are registered as red zones. During the past 24 hours 343 coronavirus patients have been hospitalized. Of the 1136 patients hospitalized, 197 are in ICUs,” according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Razavi Khorasan Medical Sciences University.

With 269 patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours, there are now 1288 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 165 are in ICUs in Fars province. During the past 24 hours, there have been 17 Covid deaths across this province, according to a report wired on Wednesday by the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).
